At Canine Companions, we believe in the joyful, transformative power of the human-canine partnership – in every form! More than one-third of dogs released from service dog training have gone on to serve as #therapydogs in their communities. We think that’s incredible, and we're proud that through our therapy dog certification program, we can continue to support and engage volunteers, while providing suitable released dogs with impactful jobs. Unlike a Canine Companions #servicedog who's trained in completing up to 45 tasks to benefit their handler, our #therapydog is a pet that accompanies their owner into specific settings for the benefit of the residents or clients in the setting and/or as part of a therapeutic intervention.❤️ Studies have shown that interacting with therapy dogs, as part of an animal-assisted intervention approach, yields both physical and psychological benefits to humans and the dog. 🐾 Learn more about our therapy dog program: https://bit.ly/3XMGUSt #petphotoday #therapy #support #therapydogthursday #thursday

A seizure alert dog is one that has been trained to respond to a seizure in someone who has epilepsy. These dogs can be trained as an assistance dog, through an approved training provider, for people who experience seizures. Seizure alert dogs are not suitable for everyone, require considerable commitment from their handler and caregivers and there are costs associated with training and maintaining them. Seizure alert dogs, while a companion to the person, are not pets but are trained to act in a service and support role. Seizure alert dogs can be trained to perform a variety of tasks, including: - Lying next to someone having a seizure to prevent an injury - Placing their body between the handler and the floor to break a fall at the beginning of the of a seizure - Staying with the handler during a seizure to provide support and comfort - Activating a device, to alert a designated person that a seizure is occurring. Let's show our furry friends some love this International Assistance Dog Week. For more information on seizure-alert dogs, please visit https://bit.ly/45q25dV or contact 1300 761 487 or support@epilepsysmart.org.au Face-to-face meetings are by appointment only. #EpilepsyFoundation #InternationalAssistanceDogWeek #EpilepsySupport

More great tips for helping keep pets safe at home and cope with stress of July 4th. This type of support for adopters is so important. Nice job Petszel.
The 4th of July can be particularly stressful for pets due to the noise from fireworks displays. This is also one of the busiest periods for animal shelters and rescues. Most organizations have limited time and resources to develop holiday-specific content for adopters to ensure important safety considerations are delivered post-adoption. That’s why Petszel has created content focused on keeping pets safe and comfortable during the upcoming holiday. All pet parents who adopt from shelters partnered with Petszel this week will automatically receive important tips for keeping their pets safe during the 4th of July weekend.

These might be our most important team members… Our HBC participants love spending time with our therapy pets Gil, Finn, and Busia. They are the most popular ones at camp, and you’ll rarely find them not being loved on by the kids, vets, moms, or staff. All that cuddling and petting is exhausting, but our pets love what they do. Camp wouldn’t be the same without them! Like this post to let us know you want to see more therapy pet content 🐶😺 #therapypets #therapydog #servicedog #therapydogs #healingjourney #therapypet

A warm introduction to the lovely Jo, The Puppy Coach. A brilliant behaviourist with excellent experience in understanding our furry friend's behaviour. Jo created her online video course and book, Puppy Coach, in 2017 as a detailed educational tool to help owners with all areas of the first year of dog ownership. Grounded in her extensive knowledge as a veterinary nurse and dog behaviourist, the bespoke series of 30 puppy training videos and accompanying book is designed to give owners the tools needed to raise a calm, well-adjusted and happy dog that is integrated successfully into a home life, from the comfort of their own home. We were delighted for the opportunity to pick Jo's brains on some of the issues surrounding the sharp rise in canine aggression. Here are key insights we took away from a recent conversation. Anxiety, more often than not anxiety, seems to be a leading contributor to behavioural issues in dogs. Aggression isn't always obvious—it can manifest in a quiet dog with bad energy, often due to a loss of self-control. Dogs lacking self-control may charge unexpectedly, leading to dangerous situations. The issue runs deep. Factors like home behaviour, diet, nutrition, and sufficient exercise all play critical roles. Are dogs allowed to run wild at home? Could this translate to unruly behaviour outside? Understanding these elements can help us better protect our furry friends. If you're struggling with an unruly dog and are feeling lost about how to turn it around, you don't need to struggle alone. I provide practical solutions to common challenges that dog parents experience eventually. Questions from dog parents that are best addressed by a veterinarian are quickly identified, and I advise as such. I agree that our shelters are overwhelmed. I also support responsible breeders. There's a difference between responsible breeders and 'backyard' breeders. Responsible breeders care about the placement of their pups. Responsible breeders recognize the difference between a show quality pup and one with conformation not suitable for the show ring in that breeder's eyes. Whether show or pet, responsible breeders place their dogs in homes carefully. My adoption assistance service doesn't focus on shelters versus responsible breeders. My company's focus remains on helping people find the best dog for their family dynamics. When show dogs retire, they need loving homes for their golden years. My company provides guidance. However, the decision remains with my clients.

There are several things that set me apart from others in my industry. ◾️I'm a canine consultant. I provide simple solutions to common issues dog parents face, eventually. I am an outside of the box thinker when the members of my family decide to throw me a curve ball. ◾️I have a Canine Adoption Guidance Service. My service is designed for 1st time dog parents and/or those interested in adding another canine to their family. ◾️The reason for my service is to decrease the numbers of dogs being returned to shelters. Understanding the importance of family dynamics before choosing to add any dog to your family is vital. Dogs adopted on impulse are too often returned. Naturally, there are exceptions and adoptions are successful. ◾️I'm not an obedience trainer. However my dogs listen to me. Perhaps it's because I listen to them. ◾️I'm not a veterinarian. However, I'm quick to spot the need for a call or visit to a vet. ◾️I've worked in the field of canine nutrition for years. However, I'm not a dog food manufacturer. I read labels. ◾️I am not a rescue group. However, my dogs are rescues. ◾️In addition to all of the above, I'm an author and a dog mom. #dogsarefamily 🐾💞🏡

The Webinar Vet | We help Vet & Pet brands grow sales revenue🚀📈 Leading the Worlds Largest Online Veterinary Community | Global Partnership Sales | LinkedIns Top Sales Voice | Visit our website below👇🏽
As members of the veterinary and broader pet care community, I wonder how The Webinar Vet and all of us can further support and enhance projects like the Dogs Trust "Underdog Project”? Jake the Lurcher’s story is a heartwarming success! His journey highlights the incredible commitment of the Dogs Trust and his team of carers in conjunction with his new family. It's inspiring to see such dedication to animals with specific needs but, there’s no doubt many more like Jake waiting for their forever home. What initiatives have been effective in your experience for promoting the adoption of such special-needs pets? Additionally, are there particular ways in which veterinary professionals and businesses could collaborate more closely with organizations like Dogs Trust to improve outcomes for these "Underdogs"? Sharing expertise, resources, or even raising public awareness & funds could make a substantial difference. I know many of our veterinary colleagues and companies already do some incredible collaborative work. How can we join forces to ensure more animals like Jake find their forever homes? #dogstrust #adoptadog #underdogproject
I am delighted to share the news that Jake the Lurcher, the face of our Underdog project, has been rehomed. Jake was in the care of the Dogs Trust Leeds team for over 1700 days due to his very specific rehoming needs. However, his team of carers remained committed to finding the right home for Jake, and that hard work has paid off. He is now settled in a home with his new family. We have a number of "Underdogs" in our care all looking for new homes. These dogs often have additional training needs or require ongoing veterinary treatment, meaning they are overlooked by many adopters. Dogs Trust supports every new owner throughout the adoption process, and for as long as they need us once the dog is in their home.
