Hi everyone:) This might be a bit different to Architecture but it’s exciting to gain knowledge and experience of other industries and not be closed-minded to one stream. So… I wanted to share something exciting with all of you! 📢 I feel incredibly fortunate to have attended the IEUK: Finance, Professional Services & Consulting Programme 2024 by Bright Network This year's event was truly exceptional, featuring renowned speakers and partners from leading companies such as Deloitte EY , KPMG UK , IBM , and PwC UK The opportunity to learn directly from seasoned professionals and gain insights into the latest industry trends and best practices was invaluable. The program was expertly organized by James Uffindell CEO of Bright Network , with Philip Yarrow as the main host and other industry experts presenting their insights and expertise. I've been blown away by the amazing speakers who have shared their wisdom and knowledge. One talk that resonated with me was by Joao Martins on "The Journey of Leadership." He emphasized the importance of communication, time management, accountability, initiative, problem-solving, and teamwork as key attributes of a great leader. These points are applicable not just in finance and consulting, but in any career field. Being a part of the Black heritage industry perspectives was truly rewarding. The insights shared were invaluable, and it was amazing to hear from successful individuals who have overcome challenges in the industry. I want to express my gratitude to Johnson Zion Adeyanju from Bright Network , Rachel Gbogbo-Morthy from Deloitte , Goke S. from EY , Mahari Hay from Lloyds Banking Group and Alicia Thomas from Macfarlanes for taking the time to provide us with such valuable insights. 🙏🏽 Another talk yesterday that really stuck with me was delivered by Ryan Mairs about mental health. He allowed himself be vulnerable and it was highly rewarding because hearing his story has transformed my perspective of taking time to look after ones self and what true strength is. I really enjoyed how transparent he was about his journey and how he overcame it and i will definitely remember this talk even further down the line of my career These past few days have been absolutely incredible, and I am excited to put all this valuable knowledge to practice. #Internship #Finance #Consulting #ProfessionalServices #CareerOpportunity #IEUK2024 #KPMG #EY #Deloitte #PWC #IBMConsulting #LloydsBank #BrightNetwork #Macfarlanes

This week I completed "Introduction to Strategy Consulting Job Simulation" by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in collaboration with Forage. This was a virtual experience on what Business Consultants at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) do and what you can expect to do as interns and on job as a Business Consultant. Here I learnt- * How to think creatively by challenging. * The assumptions that guide today’s thinking. * Used effective brainstorm strategies to generate ideas to help a fictional luxury clothing company increase sales revenue. #BostonConsultingGroup #Forage

Day 2 of IEUK Keynotes & Highlights: Laura Tye from Clyde & Co kicked off a day of enriching learning experiences with a share of her journey. Her persistent resilience opened a plethora of opportunities for her in the workplace. “Only you can sell yourself”💡 Victoria Stedman informed us on the steps British Airways are taking to mitigate economic instability. Labelling geopolitical issues and fluctuating fuel costs. Sustainability was the value that resonated when hearing from Nestlé’s Daisy Thompson and Juetong Liang I learned the effectiveness of collaboration when applied real world business practices and challenges. It takes a multifunctional corporate effort. Katie Adams from Lloyds Banking Group gave insight into what a data science career entails. Highlighting the importance to set yourself out from the crowd. Lydia Cronin gave an informative talk on B2B Marketing. Skills such as adaptability are key as marketing actions can turn into sales conversations. Emma Goodall (IBM) discussed her consulting experiences, overseeing the transformation of the NHS app post lockdown. Differentiating the need to think logically when handling client needs. Emmalyn Amoako Baffoe and Andjela Djukanovic (KPMG) provided a deep dive into their audit expertise and the rich experiences you can be exposed to when working in a regional office. Emma Russell (Mazars in the UK) provided tips on dealing with professional service interviews and highlighted the utility of the STAR method. After lunch we had the opportunity to engage and network with graduates and professionals in the industry. Being exposed to such a pool of knowledge and different perspectives was very beneficial. Key Takeaways: 💡Deloitte: I learned the significance your ability to broadcast soft skills hold in determining your success. 💡Forvis Mazars in the UK: Niamh Woodhouse emphasised importance in individuality and the opportunities it brings (having found success in finance despite being a Psychology grad) “let your passions shine through”. 💡PwC UK special thanks to Anthonia Ogundare (ACA,MBA) and Duro Bine who gave an in depth breakdown on an “ACA” and “ACCA”. The day concluded with the introduction to our work sample by Fareeha Adnan. Joining a Fictional PwC Audit team, submitting a task to give us a hands insight into Audit. Day 2 was nothing short of an intellectual bank and I look forward to Day 3. #BrightNetwork #EUK2024 #Finance #Consulting #Internship #ProfessionalServices #Deloitte #PwCUK

🌟 Day 1 of Internship Experience UK 2024 🌟 Today kicked off an incredible journey hosted by Philip Yarrow. We had the privilege of meeting James Uffindell, CEO and Founder of Bright Network, who welcomed us with inspiring words. 1️⃣ The day started with an insightful keynote speech by Ajay Kabra from PwC UK. He discussed the challenges of adapting to new work environments, emphasising the importance of diversity and inclusion. Ajay’s passion for supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds was evident as he shared his experiences and advice on career progression. 2️⃣ Our first workshop was with Joao Martins, Early Careers Advisor at Deloitte. We focused on what makes a strong leader, covering crucial skills such as: → The Power of Communication → Mastering Time Management → Taking Initiative as a Future Leader → Creative Problem Solving → Empowering your team and embracing responsibility The hands-on task with Deloitte was an exciting challenge. We envisioned ourselves in leadership roles and planned a project under time restrictions, giving us a real taste of leadership dynamics. 3️⃣ Workshop 2, led by Zoe Wells and Aidan Ward-Hendry from ICAEW, focused on transferable skills. They highlighted how teamwork showcases qualities like communication, leadership, delegation, and active listening. We also explored how to demonstrate professionalism. For example, using business language in communications, being open and honest and being trusted to make a decision. The task we completed involved working through a scenario to consider our responses and the risks and actions from our chosen stream's perspective. In my case, this was Marketing. 4️⃣ Charlotte Sangster from PwC UK led Workshop 3, where we delved into the concept of personal branding. She provided valuable insights on developing and showcasing our personal brand in the workplace. From understanding the importance of personal branding to learning how to make a lasting first impression, this session was packed with actionable tips. "Your brand is what other people say about you when you are not in the room" – Jeff Bezos. This quote set the tone for our discussion on first impressions, and did you know it takes just 30 seconds to form one? Day 1 was packed with learning and growth opportunities, and I’m super excited for what the next three days hold! 🚀 #IEUK2024 #BrightNetwork #Leadership #PersonalBranding #Skills #PwC #Deloitte #ICAEW

This is how sharing a cup of coffee with Sudipta Adhya, FRM, the COUNTRY HEAD OF FINANCE DIVISION BNY went like.(Skip only if you wanna miss about an amazing networking opportunity) Me and krish katyal recently had the privilege of meeting Sudipta Adhya , who generously shared his time and insights over a cup of coffee. This meeting left me with valuable lessons and a renewed sense of direction for my career. We delved into his remarkable journey from Goldman Sachs to BNY, and his rapid ascent in the corporate world. His key advice? “Find a good firm and stick to it. Don’t switch too much.” This resonated deeply with me, emphasising the importance of loyalty and commitment in one’s professional journey. We also explored the power of 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠. He emphasized that effective networking can be transformative. If you network with 10 people and 2 of them rise to higher positions, they will uplift you if you consistently deliver your best. This underscores the immense value of building and nurturing professional relationships. Our conversation also touched upon the significance of 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠. His perspective was enlightening: while building your personal brand is essential, it should be done in harmony with your organization’s brand. Lift others, engage genuinely, and focus on creating a community brand rather than a selfish image. We also talked about LinkedIn and how a well-maintained profile can help target the correct set of recruiters. I shared that without LinkedIn and an active profile, I wouldn’t have received his connection request, and we wouldn't have had this invaluable conversation. Throughout our conversation, his curiosity and impactful communication left a lasting impression on me. I am incredibly thankful for his guidance and the time he took to mentor us. His advice has not only broadened my perspective but has also inspired me to stay dedicated and connected. Thank you, Sudipta, for your invaluable insights and support. I am excited to implement these lessons and continue my journey with renewed focus and enthusiasm. And yes, people say it right, you have a contagious smile:) Thank you, BNY, for fostering such a welcoming environment where an intern can communicate so freely with higher authorities. Thank you, LinkedIn, for making it possible to connect with such impactful people. #Networking #PersonalBranding #CareerAdvice #Mentorship #Gratitude #ProfessionalGrowth #LinkedIn #BNY #lifeatBNY #internship #sdeintern
