We’re seeing a shift towards a circular economy, and it’s not just a buzzword—it’s a necessity. The Green Deal is pushing us to rethink our strategies, and it’s clear that agility and adaptability are key to staying afloat. Let’s talk about consumer involvement. It’s impressive how proactive they’ve become, demanding renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable options. Brands and retailers are stepping up, aligning their sustainability strategies with these expectations. Digital transformation is also reshaping the landscape. It’s heartening to see that a majority of US brands have already adapted their packaging for e-commerce. But there’s a catch: the pace of technological change is rapid, and we need to keep up. The market is becoming demand-driven, and we must respond accordingly. Here’s the kicker: the time to market for new packaging designs is lagging far behind consumer expectations. We’re looking at a reality where it takes almost 200 days to launch a new product variant, while consumers would like it to be almost instantaneous. So, what’s the takeaway? We need to bridge this gap, and fast. It’s not just about being quick; it’s about being sustainable too. The goal is clear: accelerate the go-to-market process for new packaging designs, but never lose sight of our sustainability KPIs. 📢 "Our factory in Flins started its transformation three years ago: from a car manufactory facility to the first industrial ecosystem dedicated to the circular economy of mobility in Europe. Not only have we transformed the industrial tool, but we have also transformed our competencies on site. We have created the first Campus of Industrial Circular Mobility, who reskilled and upskilled 1200 people working today on 12 new activities. We have become an open ecosystem, hosting five partners, from medium industrial companies to start-ups supported by our Open Innovation Hub. And that's just the beginning! We welcome all industrial players who share our belief that the circular economy is key to our future and want to develop it further!" said Catherine Leleu, Refactory Business Development Director, during the 2024 International Automotive Recycling Congress in Antwerp (ICM AG). Taking part in the round table "From recycling to circular economy in the automotive industry", Catherine Leleu presented the Refactory, a Renault Group industrial asset that became a key industrial basis for the circular economy activities of THE FUTURE IS NEUTRAL. The Refactory embodies the Renault Group's ambition to become a leader in automotive circular economy. I had the opportunity to meet in-person a great core team responsible for #goTOzero retail project-sustainability at #VW Group and all #brands. One key takeaway from the workshop was the importance of shifting mindset from viewing costs to recognizing value drivers as the key to achieving decarbonization in the value chain. Next workshop with my Core team colleagues from VW Group and brands. What is special - everyone is onsite, some of us had to start at 4 a.m. to join the meeting. But it does worth it when we come together, spend the day in intensive - sometime very heated - discussions and then all say that it was great: ✅ How to scale and engage more markets to join the retail decarbonization? ✅ How to handle the legal topics and standards of retail sustainability? ✅ What are the benefits of VW energy consulting for retailers, what did the pilot tell us? ✅ How to organize annual goTOzero retail conference best and what is the main focus? These are just some topics on the Agenda.
