The Carlisle Pumptrack held its grand opening this weekend! Located in Valley Meadows Park, the pumptrack is a self-contained bicycling circuit designed for riders of all levels to develop better bike handling skills and cardiovascular fitness while having fun! Spearheaded by Cumberland Youth Cycling Development (CYCD), the pumptrack has been several years in the making. CYCD first presented the idea to the Carlisle Parks and Recreation Board in 2019! In addition to Carlisle Borough, CYCD collaborated with the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation, Partnership for Better Health, and various local businesses and individuals to bring the Carlisle Pumptrack to life.

Since the announcement of GCN+ closing down, it has been stewing and stirring in the back of my mind, and I can only conclude that the closing of #GCN+ is only a good business decision if bad technology decisions have been made (in the past) on the larger Warner Bros. Discovery Sports landscape (which means it's a compounded bad business decision). From an engagement, sales (advertisers) and retention basis, I can only see how GCN+ was a model that could be replicated (Cricket, Motorsports and football (i.e. soccer) spring to mind ) - value-add, multimodal audience engagement and content delivery. The cost, if architected appropriately (i.e. not like a broadcast TV network), would be minimal, whilst offering access to highly engaged and targeted audiences to advertisers (and for subscriptions). And none of this would break the ability for conglomerate apps like Eurosports or #Discovery+. I always seen GCN+ as an under utilised business tool (for revenue, platform & engagement), or maybe I should say, still evolving - yes, some of us where critical, but at the end of the day, we want GCN to be successful. In case any cycling fans doubt the value GCN+ delivered to the community, using IMDb.com, I identified 270+ cycling documentaries, 103 of which are GCN+ Originals (and I'm sure I missed a few). We have no advice on where these will land, or how to (legally) continue to access them, along with the core racing content. Some markets may know, but not all. In the meantime, I'd like to thank all the hard work that was put in by the team at GCN to make GCN+ work. GCN+ is closing! This is a sad day and another sad tale where Goliath kills David! This isn’t just a royal kick in the teeth for all of the amazing team that has brought us hours of fantastic cycling related entertainment and racing but another blow to the industry. GCN+ is closing, and very soon. As a non mainstream sport it has always been challenging to watch bike racing in Europe, let alone anywhere else in the world and certainly not on-demand but that all changed when GCN+ was released back in 2019, and since then we have been lucky enough to have a huge amount of epic content, on anything cycling related, at our finger tips. GCN+ has been the go-to for all cycling fans, no matter what your flavour. Sadly, Warner Bros Discovery has decided to can GCN+ at the dismay of all of the fans and most likely the employees as well. The story is that WBD want to consolidate all streaming services to Discovery+, but reading through the lines they just want to remove the cost of maintaining a separate platform. Ironically they invested in that platform to become a massive success only to kill it off. It’s the smaller companies that make a difference, that create a brand, that generate demand, that deliver something magical and innovative and attract a loyal customer base. It is such a travesty that larger companies that initially invest in something great, ultimately do nothing but destroy it. WBD - we are not all just interested in mainstream sports, we want to watch the sports we love, we love cycling and that’s why many many people subscribed to GCN+. The Barkley Marathons... the race which eats its young... the race where dreams go to die. Barkley Marathon is an ultramarathon trail race held each year in Tennessee. This marathon consists of five loops of the 20+ mile, off-trail course for a total of 100 miles (160 km). This year: My colleague from HUB International Canada, Ihor Verys finished first in the race. Registration: 1. By invitation only. 2. Potential entrants must complete an essay on "Why I Should be Allowed to Run in the Barkley," pay a $1.60 application fee, and complete other requirements. Course: With 54,200 feet (16,500 m) of accumulated vertical climb (and the same amount of descent), the 100-mile run is considered to be one of the most challenging ultramarathons held in the world. Runners are not able to use GPS, and must rely on maps. Finishers: In the 38 year history, as of the end of the 2024 event, the full, five-loop race has been completed by only 20 runners. Canyon Bicycles GmbH has launched a cycling initiative with basketball champion LeBron James to inspire a new generation of cyclists. The collaboration includes a video which features the athlete demonstrating the freedom of cycling. It will also see Canyon provide bikes to the LeBron James Family Foundation’s ‘I Promise’ campaign which encourages students to finish school, live active lives and aim for a bright future. “LeBron truly believes in the power of cycling,” Canyon Bicycles CEO Nicolas de Ros Wallace told Zag Daily. “Together, we aim to inspire our fans to explore what's possible through cycling.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/epcWzSrW
