Co-Founder and CEO of abroaden.co - financial wellbeing for people living abroad 🌍️ | co-founder of BCN FinTech
Yesterday, I had an amazing time at the Barcelona Expat Life Work in Barcelona Jobs fair giving a workshop on our top 5 tips for turning your next paycheck into a wealth building machine for abroaden. In addition to the great turn out (and no mass walkouts, which is always a victory for a public speaker 🙃), I learned a lot from the audience, both during the Q&A and with some great individual conversations afterwards. Mainly, it's clear that foreign employees working for international companies, startups and scale-ups want to improve their money habits but need help learning how to do so. What's more, the HR professionals I spoke with know that employees will perform better if they don't struggle understanding local financial customs and how to better manage their money. And while they'd love to help employees with these questions, they're not qualified or comfortable to do so. This is where we at abroaden can help workers achieve more and make life easier for HR professionals who want nothing but the best employee experience in the company. If you're a company here in Barcelona (or beyond) with lots of foreign workers, reach out to me to see how we can work together to improve employee financial education. 🧑💻 (Also, a big shout-out to Mirjam Maarleveld for once again putting together an amazing job fair and to Maria Kelly for a the great chat on public speaking before kicking off the workshop!)

When you're job searching, or if you're self employed and light on future assignments, the weekend doesn't have quite the same flavour as it does when you're working full time. In the background, you might be thinking about the week ahead and wondering what's the best way to use your time. You can often put that background worry to rest by planning for the week ahead. One possible effective time use is to attend hiring and job fairs, like this one on Tuesday, March 12 at the Pan Pacific Hotel. ISSofBC's Gateway to Tourism & Hospitality program is hosting the event, which will include a wide range of employers with varied job opportunities: a brilliant opportunity to network with hiring staff. I know we all need rest and a break from thinking about work. Tell that to my brain. Sometimes, the way to relax is to resolve and plan ahead for the weekdays, and having planned, banish the worry til Monday. Once the plan is in place, my weekend is liberated from background stress. If you are the same, consider attending this upcoming event as a very workable plan for the week ahead. Register for the morning guest talks, including Parq Vancouver's Serena Basi, at: https://lnkd.in/gxBCFBSY. For the afternoon job fair, register here: https://lnkd.in/g94VYY_e

✅✅Scrolling through endless company booths at a job fair, you may notice that they all promise good pay and benefits, but let's face it, that's pretty standard these days. The real question is: What sets a company apart?🤔 👉If you were to liken it to selecting a travel destination, some locations may offer excellent weather and luxurious accommodations (similar to salary and benefits), but wouldn't you prefer a place with a rich history, a vibrant culture, or breathtaking natural beauty (like a strong company purpose)? That's the kind of place that creates lasting memories, don't you think? ✅A company's purpose is like its guiding star. It's not simply a cliché slogan displayed on a poster. 📌It's the driving force behind their decisions, the motivation that keeps employees engaged, and the special ingredient that captivates customers and makes them love their brand. 📌Let's face it, modern individuals, particularly millennials and Gen Z, desire more than just a paycheck nowadays. 👉They want to work for a company that is making a difference, a company they can take pride in being a part of. In a way, it's like dating – you seek someone who shares your values, correct? ✅I had the privilege of working for a company with a mission that deeply resonated with me. It felt like a complete transformation! ✅Suddenly, I was thrilled to go to work, work alongside dedicated colleagues, and contribute to something larger than myself. It was like finally discovering that dream travel destination that ticks all the boxes – beautiful, captivating, and significant. 📌So, can a company thrive without a compelling purpose? maybe in the old days. However, today's consumers and employees are searching for something more. ✅They want to associate with and support companies that stand for something, that make a positive impact on the world. It's no longer solely about the financial results; it's about crafting a legacy, a narrative that will be remembered by people. 👉And let's be candid, wouldn't it be far more enjoyable to work for a company with an inspiring purpose that energizes you rather than putting you to sleep at your desk? Helpful tips for next weeks career fair.
What should I wear at a job fair? 👨💼👩💼 Here are some general recommendations on what to wear at our Bellevue College Annual Networking & Job Fair on May 8th: → It is best to stick with either business casual or business formal. This could mean a dress shirt and pants, a blouse and trousers, or even a polo with slacks! → Stick with solid colors! This includes black, navy, beige, gray, white, etc. → Since you are meeting with employers, it would be best to look tidy and clean! Strong first impressions are key! → Although we love our accessories, they should be minimal during the job fair. This ensures that the attention is on you, not your accessories. → If you are picking between outfits for the fair, it is generally better to choose the formal option. The main takeaway is that: 🌟The focus should be on you, not what you're wearing🌟 Learn more about the employers attending and some job fair tips here: https://lnkd.in/gbgCryZG Don’t forget to register and save the date! #BellevueCollege #Careers #careerdevelopment #careeradvice #careerservices #bellevuecollegeelearning #BellevueCollegeCommunityGroup #BellevueCollegeSTEMConnections #bellevuecollegeinternationalstudentsandalumni #bellevuecollegealumni #bellevuecollegefoundation #careerfair #jobfair #internship #internshipopportunity #jobopportunities #networking
