CBID successes: In 2023, a consortium of organisations of persons with disabilities in Guatemala, which received the CBM community based inclusive development CBID Innovation Fund, signed an agreement with the Guatemala Electoral Authority, a crucial step to ensure that persons with disabilities were included in the 2023 electoral processes. The two parties worked together to: ♿Make polling stations accessible to enable persons with disabilities to cast their votes. 🗳️ Introduce tools that guarantee the privacy and secrecy of the ballot. ℹ️ Produce information materials in appropriate media and formats for persons with disabilities to learn about the election process. The Guatemala General elections were conducted on 25 June 2023, and a second round on 20 August 2023, ushered in a new government. 🗳 How do we ensure we elect more women, more minority ethnic people, more disabled people & more LGBTI people? Political parties have a unique role in achieving greater diversity in our elected representation, but so much about elections is already decided long before polling day. Parties largely have control over who makes it onto the ballot, with many decisions ahead of election day shaping the outcome before any votes have been cast. Across our councils & parliaments, the underrepresentation of marginalised groups is rife, & with elections in 2026 and 2027, now is the time for parties to review how aspiring candidates gain approval to stand if we're to see more diversity on the ballot. We've launched a new chapter of the #EqualRepresentationInPolitics Toolkit focused on candidate assessment, with guidance on how to run an inclusive & accessible assessment approach that enables people from a wider range of backgrounds to succeed. Head to our blog via the link below to find out more about the new chapter & how your party can use the Toolkit to help build more equal politics in Scotland: https://lnkd.in/gtTurrEf

Like all citizens, they have the right to vote and be elected. To empower their voices in the 2024 General Elections, the UNDP Democracy and Elections Project, in partnership with TV Surdo, has launched a TV Spot aimed at promoting the participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWD). This initiative is part of a broader voter and civic education campaign to ensure that every voter, including marginalized groups, is heard and engaged in the democratic process. #InclusionMatters #Elections2024 #DisabilityRights #Democracy

🗳️ Will I be able to vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections? 🗳️ As part of our "The Future is Ours" project, we have been working to ensure that people with Down Syndrome are prepared and informed for the EU elections in 2024. VISIT OUR WEBSITE TO FIND OUT MORE ➡ https://lnkd.in/gvgRXTAy Voting is a fundamental right, but in the European Union, the rules about who can vote vary by country. While this June marks the first time that many people with Down Syndrome will be able to participate in an EU election, there are still difficulties regarding voting rights in many other countries. For example people with intellectual disabilities might need a guardian to help them navigate the voting booth. However, in seven EU countries (Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Portugal, and Slovenia) there's a significant issue: only one person is allowed in the voting booth, which can make it difficult or even impossible for people with intellectual disabilities to receive the assistance they need. The European Union has expressed a commitment to ensuring that everyone can vote, but these rules need to be addressed to make this a reality. Accessible voting is essential for true democratic participation, and we must advocate for changes that allow everyone to have their say in the elections. Let's advocate for accessible voting for all! 🗳️✊ #EuropeanUnion #DownSyndrome #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #Advocacy #TheFutureIsOurs #Awareness #Support #Community #Vote #EUforTrisomy21 #Equality #HumanRights #Accessibility #Empowerment #Health #Education

My article is out in today’s Saturday Paper. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/gku5d6fs The 2023 Referendum was incredibly tough for our people and it was sickening to see cynical supporters of the “No” campaign politicise Aboriginal women and children’s safety. Sadly there were 9 million people who voted no. But 6 million people also stood with us and voted YES for hope, change, unity, recognition and respect. YES to addressing the family violence that Aboriginal women are 33 times more likely to be hospitalised from than other women. YES to increased investment in services like Djirra which will mean Aboriginal women can access holistic culturally safe legal and non-legal help wherever they are in Victoria. YES to supporting Aboriginal mums to stay safe and together with their children. YES to counting Aboriginal women in. The way I see it, that’s 6 million more reasons to keep fighting and 9 million more reasons to go harder. Post Referendum we will be going harder than ever to advocate for Aboriginal women. This International Women’s Day, and every day, we ask that others join us. COUNT ME IN the fight to keep Aboriginal women heard and visible. COUNT ME IN the fight for self-determination. COUNT ABORIGINAL WOMEN IN. Invest in us and real progress will follow. We have the solutions and our lives matter. Navigating the Crossroads of Polarization in Political Campaigns With Values-Based Strategies The European Parliament elections are only months away. Therefore, there is an urgent need to understand why voters make the choices they do. But, how can political parties bridge divides and reconnect across the social spectrum? Understanding the deeper values and motivations of diverse societal segments that shape the electorate is where it all begins. With Glocalities' values based segmentation model, we can better understand voter behaviour. Each voter segment does not only have a unique worldview, but also distinct concerns, which affect their voting behavior as well. For instance: 1. Challengers and Achievers are especially concerned by economic growth. 2. Creatives are especially concerned about the climate (other than the previously mentioned human rights agenda). 3. Conservatives and Socializers are relatively more concerned about crime and immigration. To learn more see https://lnkd.in/eg57g-GP #marketresearch #values
