🌟 Exciting Infrastructure Development in D.C.! 🌟 CBNA and Halmar have been awarded an $819 million contract by DC Water to construct the Potomac River Tunnel, the largest project in the authority's history. This 5.5-mile tunnel is a major component of the Clean Rivers Project, a $2.99 billion initiative aimed at improving water quality in the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers and Rock Creek. 🔹 The PRT will significantly reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to the Potomac River by 93% during typical rainfall years, enhancing water quality and environmental sustainability. 🔹 The 18-foot-diameter tunnel will traverse beneath Georgetown, West Potomac Park, and the National Mall, connecting to the existing Anacostia River Tunnel. 🔹 Timeline: Construction is set to begin in 2024, with completion expected by early 2030. This project not only underscores the importance of sustainable infrastructure but also highlights the commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and preserving natural resources. Kudos to all the teams involved! 👏 https://lnkd.in/eefVhSum #Infrastructure #Sustainability #WaterQuality #Engineering #Construction

Yorkshire Water investing £2.5m in Hatfield Woodhouse treatment works Yorkshire Water is investing £2.5m to lay 1.9km of new rising main to transfer wastewater flows from #HatfieldWoodhouse to Thorne for treatment. The #investment work includes the installation of a new storage tank that will hold storm flows from prolonged rain and extreme wet weather events, which will then be pumped to the treatment plat at #Thorne at a controlled rate. These improvements are part of Yorkshire Water’s commitment to improve #environmental performance to improve river quality by reducing the number of overflows at Hatfield Woodhouse and significantly reduce the levels of Phosphorus entering the water network. Phase one of the project to install the new rising main from the treatment works on Temple Moor to connect to the existing network in Slay Pit Lane will begin in July. Contract partners Eric Wright Group will complete this phase by September and keep disruption to a minimum. The second stage of the works to install a new storm tank will take place at the Turf Moor Road treatment plant and is due for completion by February 2025. #YorkshireWater has liaised with Doncaster Council’s #highways team to ensure all work is carried out safely, #residents and #localbusinesses will be informed of any #trafficmanagement or road diversions closer to the time. Ben Gouldsborough, #projectmanager at Yorkshire Water, said: "Phosphorus is a normal part of #domestic #wastewater, however, too much can be harmful to the #watercourse. We are working hard to reduce the amount of Phosphorus entering network and in doing so, help to improve the #health and #quality of our rivers." This is part of the new £500m #waterindustry national environment programme (#WINEP), to reduce #Phosphorus at 80 of Yorkshire Water’s wastewater #treatment sites and improve #waterquality. https://lnkd.in/eSGABUJk

The theme for this year’s #LocalGovernmentAwarenessWeek is Infrastructure! While some look behind the curtain, we're looking beneath the tweed curtain to highlight projects in Oak Bay. The Uplands Sewer Separation project has begun, with phase one (Humber Catchment) underway. Did you know: 2️⃣ The existing combined collection system is comprised of two main catchment areas, Humber (Phase 1) and Rutland (Phase 2). 🌊 This work of separating the sanitary sewer and storm water systems will help provide mitigation against the risk of sewage overflow into the ocean and reduce strain on CRD facilities downstream. 📝 This project is one of Oak Bay’s major infrastructure commitments under the regional Core Area Liquid Waste Management Plan (CALWMP). Following the award of the $134 million design and construction contract to Exact Contracting earlier this year, work is now underway on the Manton Dam Return to Service project in the Northern Territory. Built in the 1940s with a storage capacity of 14,000 megalitres, Manton Dam was Darwin’s primary source of water until Darwin River Dam was commissioned in 1972. It was opened to recreation by the Northern Territory Government in the late 1980s and has been maintained since then as a potential future water supply source. Stage 1 of the program, will return Manton Dam to service as an operational drinking water supply source for the Darwin region. Once Manton Dam is returned to service, it will provide an additional 7,300 megalitres a year into the Darwin region water supply system. #Construction #Infrastructure #WaterManagement #NorthernTerritory #MantonDam #WaterSupply #Engineering #Sustainability #ProjectUpdate #CommunityDevelopment https://lnkd.in/g465V-Ct

Lower Woodburn WwPS: The successful delivery of a £1.8m wastewater pumping station in the Greenisland Drainage Catchment to improve water quality in Belfast Lough Lower Woodburn Wastewater Pumping Station (WwPS) serves the Greenisland Drainage Catchment and is located close to the town of Carrickfergus on the foreshore of Belfast Lough. The storm outfall from the WwPS flows directly into the lough. Although recognised that discharges have minimal impact on the Belfast Lough Shellfish Water Protected Area (SWPA), there is localised impact and a need to protect and preserve amenity on the accessible shoreline. Upgrading of the WwPS was needed to comply with the Environmental Regulator’s (NIEA) consent requirements. As part of Belfast’s strategic ‘Living with Water Programme’ (LwWP), NI Water has invested £1.8m to upgrade Lower Woodburn WwPS by increasing the volume of storm emergency overflow storage and installing a static screen. The solution also facilitates proposed housing (315 units) and hospitality/recreational developments that discharge directly to the WwPS and delivers storm separation of 17.8 hectares of impermeable ground. The project delivers against the LwWP goals of PROTECT against Flooding, ENHANCE the Environment and GROW the Economy.
