How do you avoid the ‘oh, you're inviting me on your podcast so you can sell me later’ when using your show to create new connections?
Your goal for outreach should never be to ‘sell’ something. Your goal in any first meeting is a conversation. People can feel an agenda or a disingenuous interaction.
The way you ensure the authenticity of the connection is to do your research. Look at the content they write about, speak about, engage with, and ensure your show allows them to create more of that content. (and give examples).
If you’re focused on being present and engaging in the topic at hand, they’ll ask you what you do.
And if it makes sense, they’ll continue the conversation.
TLDR;
Make the primary goal: to create a top industry show. Create a great guest experience that reflects the brand. Podcasts are for creating meaningful connections, if you do that, you will win.
