Public Information Meeting Summary Available The Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) has developed a meeting summary documenting the public information meetings for the Randall Over 90 project held on May 15 and May 16, 2023. The summary includes all materials presented, comments received, and a summary of feedback on the Alternatives Under Consideration. Through the Randall Over 90 project, KDOT is studying potential improvements to Randall Road between Big Timber Road on the south and IL 72 on the north, with particular focus on its interchange with 1-90 (the Jane Adams Memorial Tollway). How will this corridor serve the future needs of our community? What will it look like? How will it operate? This project will provide an early look at potential improvements to Randall Road.  Right now KDOT is evaluating and/ or updating the following: Bicycle and pedestrian accommodations Traffic and safety information Utility impacts Detailed roadway, structural and drainage design NEPA analysis and documentation, which includes a description of environmental and community impacts Detailed noise analysis, including evaluation of noise mitigation strategies Continued public and stakeholder engagement A second public information meeting is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2024 where KDOT will present the Preferred Alternative for review and input. Environmental and design approval of this project is anticipated in Fall 2024 by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Philly’s I-95 Reconstruction Ahead of Schedule: Reconstruction work on I-95 in Philadelphia is progressing faster than expected. According to a report from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, one in three bridges in the U.S. needs repair or replacement. We partner with agencies nationwide to ensure local bridges are safe and dependable for generations to come. The Vermont Agency of Transportation selected us as the Prime Consultant for Phase 1 design services to rehabilitate nine bridge structures along the Green Mountain Railroad in southern Vermont. Throughout the project, we will look to minimize impacts on rail operations and local cultural or environmental factors. This includes examining innovative bridge replacement options and Accelerated Bridge Construction techniques to reduce onsite construction while considering ease of maintenance and the region’s extreme weather. #StormwaterManagement #MilwaukeeMetropolitanSewerageDistrict #CWPurpero "Construction is underway on an effort to make a concrete and asphalt colossus a little bit more “green.” The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, with general contractor C.W. Purpero, Inc., is adding green infrastructure components underneath Interstate 43/94 at the W. Becher Street overpass. The project will capture stormwater runoff through natural vegetation, dry stream beds, a bio-infiltration basin and a “stormwater forest.” The water, contaminated with oil and other metals from the roadway, would otherwise end up in the nearby Kinnickinnic River or Deep Tunnel combined sewer system. A total of 18 drains from the freeway are to be connected to the site below. The infrastructure improvements are being installed on what has long been an effectively-vacant, four-acre lot north of W. Becher Street between S. 4th and 5th streets. The freeway becomes an elevated structure at that point, creating a cavernous, largely-covered space underneath as it approaches Downtown. Project renderings depict new walking paths being added to the site. The street serves as a link between the Bay View, Lincoln Village and Harbor District neighborhoods. But multi-layered ramps paralleling the freeway create a disconnect between the east and west sides."

LONGEVITY MATTERS FOR PAVEMENT PRESERVATION When we talk about longevity, it's about selecting a surface treatment that continues to protect the asphalt year after year. Not just how long you can see a treatment on the surface for. Selecting a surface treatment that protects the underlying asphalt for longer has clear benefits: 1) Longer Lasting Roads: The longer the surface treatment lasts, the more protection it provides for the underlying asphalt, keeping it in better shape for longer. 2) Cost-Effectiveness: When asphalt lasts longer, it costs less to own on a yearly basis. That allows tax dollars and budgets to be stretched further. 3) A Happier Driving Public: Longer-lasting surface treatments result in less impact on the community. The longer the treatment lasts, the longer the street can go without another pavement preservation treatment. Long-term protection, not just coverage, is key to a successful pavement preservation program. p.s. The picture below was taken from an HA5 project we did two years ago.
