New projects like Aetna-funded H3C are showing hospitals that investing in affordable housing comes with long-term benefits, from "improved health of local communities to how much managed care groups benefit financially from those healthier populations'. And for underserved communities, these investments are coming not a moment too soon. “We need more capital, constantly, to do more housing. about a #month ago I did a little #basicfirstaid skills to #church members of the church I fellowship at back in the #village. what led me to doing this is #thelackofknowledge of #simplequickresponses they could use before help gets their way or before getting to go run about trying to hassle a #vehicle to take them to #hospital. I know you are wondering what kind of village is that? yes my home village which to my understanding is actually #similar to do many other villages and communities out here. #Accessibilitytoemergency health care in our village setting is sometimes challenging, #transport #money and the #proximity of a well equipped facility are some of the factors that come in between the #goldenhour in many emergency cases. After the service, ( #btw it was in between the service, the church gives the nurse 15 minutes every time she is in to talk about different conditions, which is thoughtful and really helpful.) I got #somefeedback , a positive one: #thatwouldreallyhelpthemiftheyhadaproblem. I was happy I had made some impact, though a drop in the ocean but a life could be saved. H3C is just one of many examples showing that health care systems are increasingly starting to see benefits in building affordable and safe housing, from the improved health of local communities to how much managed care groups benefit financially from those healthier populations. Those factors and others, including a shortage of housing for their own workers, have pushed health systems to become partners and investors in affordable housing.

In health, one statement is consistently cited across all documents: "Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) are the backbone of our health system." This is undeniably true. FCHVs are involved in every intervention requiring community mobilization. To keep them motivated, the government initiated an endowment fund for FCHVs by allocating NPR 50,000 per VDC. Over time, the government has gradually added to this seed money annually. With the shift to a federal system, it became necessary to create implementation guidelines to efficiently utilize these funds and address technical challenges at the municipal level. Recently, the Nursing and Social Security Division hosted a two-day workshop to finalize these guidelines for effectively operating FCHVs funds at the municipal level. Hopefully, input from across the provinces has refined the guidelines, supporting their finalization before cabinet enactment. #FCHVs #FCHVFund #MoHP #NursingDivision #PublicHealth #MadheshHealth

Having worked in this space for a while it’s great to finally see the NYT piece come out around this topic. It’s exciting to see work be done specifically by Aetna, a CVS Health Company, Kaiser Permanente, Enterprise Community Partners, Mercy Housing, Greater Minnesota Housing Fund and looking forward to study results from Health Management Associates (Center on Budget and Policy Priorities already well ahead in this field). This is important work that fundamentally raises questions about everyone’s top two expenses: housing + health. How are the two financed, and what incentives are at play? Might they work together to improve each other and what errors need to be avoided in order to be effective? #affordablehousing #housing #health #healthcarefinance #housingfinance #hospitals #healthinsurance

This is why we need to fast-track the application of ESG reforms to political promises. At the moment there are no end of Tas election promises to funnel funding into foreign-owned profiteering (in exchange for uncertain minimum wage casual jobs for Tasmania). There seems to ba a lot of subliminal political messaging that "The issues are too hard for us to understand or address, so let's just dazzle voters by promising footy, cable cars and chocolate fountains".

A #Peterborough or #Fenland resident can expect to live, on average, 5 years less than a #SouthCambridgeshire resident. What's even more staggering is the disparity that you can find across a single city - The difference in average life expectancy between the most and least deprived people in #Cambridge is 12 years. There are a variety of factors that contribute to these differences and there is no single solution, but hundreds of community and charity projects that we support across #Cambridgeshire are collectively helping to address these disparities. Here are just two examples of projects we have supported: Peterborough United Foundation runs an Extra Time Hub, a weekly gathering open to anyone who is retired or semi-retired.
