European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR) is an initiative within the European Union's overarching goal to steer Europe towards becoming the first #climateneutral continent by 2050. The #EUDR mandates that companies importing goods into the EU substantiate their products' #deforestationfree status. These obligations under the EUDR will come into effect from December 30, 2024. It’s the 20th anniversary of palm oil watchdog RSPO – but 20 years of failure is nothing to celebrate Today (8 April), the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RPSO) – the main voluntary certification scheme for palm oil – will be 20-years-old. The industry watchdog is meant to assure consumers that palm oil bearing its stamp of approval is free from environmental or social violations. A new guide highlights the financial and sustainability risks associated with the palm oil industry, with a focus on tropical deforestation. The guide, produced by CDP, encourages the implementation of landscape and jurisdictional approaches to address deforestation holistically and emphasizes the need for collective action among industry stakeholders to achieve sustainable palm oil production.
