Inspired by the recent IPL season, Govind Iyer, our Founding Board Member and All India Chairperson, has authored an insightful article for the Alliance magazine that draws an interesting parallel between modern-day cricket and engaged philanthropy. Just like today's cricketers are more strategic and focused on long-term goals, philanthropy has evolved beyond simple giving. Today's philanthropists are actively involved in ensuring their contributions create lasting impact. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ggxPHK5Q Do share your thoughts on this interesting perspective in the comments! #SVPIndia #EngagedPhilanthropy #IPL #Cricket

“When individuals spend time meaningfully, getting to know the non-profits and understand their challenges, it results in deeper and greater understanding of the cause, and sustained support on the part of the giver.” Govind Iyer, Founding Board Member and All India Chairperson of SVP India, recently published an insightful piece on engaged philanthropy in Alliance magazine. Just like cricket players who participate in every aspect of the game, modern philanthropists are moving beyond one-time donations to create lasting impact. Iyer highlights how SVP India is at the forefront of driving meaningful change through strategic giving and volunteerism. Read Iyer’s piece to learn how engaged philanthropy is transforming lives, fostering deeper connections, and addressing India's most pressing challenges: #engagedphilanthropy #svpindia #svp #collectivegiving

I have two requests for everyone following the Olympics. Every second or third post on LinkedIn seems to be about the Olympics so it’s quite clear that there is massive interest and lots of people are thinking about it. Our sports budget is very tiny and I don’t think it’s going to be increased massively anytime soon. We need more money to create more champions. So please contribute. Give money to support sportspersons. You can give money to the Olympic Gold Quest. Run by former India hockey captain Viren Rasquinha they have supported more than half the medal winners at the current and past few Olympics. You can read what they do and how they do it on their website. They are absolutely genuine and you can be rest assured that every paisa that you contribute will be put to good use. You can also contribute to JSW Sports Pvt Ltd and Go Sports. Second, please support and watch these sports even when the Olympics are not on. These sports don’t get a lot of corporate money because companies make decisions based on viewership and news coverage as proxies for popularity and support. If more people watch more often and keep talking about it, more corporate money is bound to come in. Another excellent suggestion by Ankit Goyal. Follow the sportspeople on social media so that they can become big brands and generate more money. CSR budgets can also be used to support these sports. Remember we don’t have to keep cribbing about the govt and lack of corporate sponsorship. We can make a difference. More money will significantly increase the chances of a double digit medal haul at Los Angeles 2028. Thank you 🙏🇮🇳

Amazed to see some of the amounts donated by organizations towards electoral bonds which went to various political parties. While politics seems to be a popular cause, there are still many essential areas that require support. Take sports, for instance. At our Table Tennis Academy, we work tirelessly to train children to play at the state and national level. Unfortunately, financial support is hard to come by. We have a few corporates who helped us during tough times, but it's not enough to cover the huge costs of running a dedicated sports academy. We firmly believe that sports can be just as important to a healthy nation-building process as education and politics. It's time that we start giving it the same level of importance. We're not giving up on our vision and mission to promote sports in India. We hope that soon, we'll see a society that values sports just as much as politics. #sports #sportsinindia #SupportSport #sportsecosystem #kheloindia

As the #Paris2024 #OlympicGames are underway, Myriad Canada is proud of a new collaboration with the World Olympians Association! The opening of this fund is part of a wider collaboration at the Myriad Alliance level, involving our partners Myriad Alliance Fondation Roi Baudouin Myriad USA Myriad Australia 🌎 The general aim of this new Fund at Myriad Canada is to support Olympians and empower them to serve their local communities and society at large. Activities may include educational projects for Olympians, helping them transition to a life beyond competitive sport after retirement; and projects benefiting the local communities of Olympians and society at large. 🤝 🏆 The King Baudouin Foundation and Myriad Alliance are proud to partner with the World Olympians Association (WOA) to launch an International Friends Fund. This new initiative helps Olympians continue their impactful work in society after their athletic careers. Many Olympians want to give back to their communities, both for the general good and often with a particular focus on sport. Through this fund, we enable global donations to support their philanthropic efforts. Our collaboration with the WOA, and our partners from Myriad USA , Myriad Canada, Myriad Australia and Give2Asia aligns perfectly with our mission at KBF 🙌 By leveraging our philanthropic instruments, we can channel generosity towards impactful projects that Olympians champion. Whether it’s fostering unity in Cyprus, combating childhood obesity in The Gambia, promoting active lifestyles in Lithuania, or supporting vulnerable children in Chile, these initiatives exemplify the Olympic spirit’s potential to transcend ethnic, religious, and social differences. Did you know that if it wasn't for Shepherd Center's board members, the #ParalympicGames as we know them may have disappeared? In 1996, when the Olympics were coming to Atlanta, the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) decided not to make a bid for the Paralympics. Shepherd Center board members could not just sit by and watch the tradition of the Paralympics being held in conjunction with the Olympics disappear. So our board members stepped right up and threw Shepherd Center's hat into the ring as a founding sponsor of the Games, which began a massive fund-raising campaign that raised tens of millions of dollars. Even the staff members volunteered as judges, and Shepherd Center invited participants to train in Shepherd's pool and weight rooms. Because of the near loss of the 1996 Paralympic Games, the International Olympic Committee now requires cities to bid for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. #Olympics #Paralympics #2024 #AtlantaOlympics #DisabilityPride #DisabilityCommunity #DisabilityRights

Experienced Programme Manager | Project Direction | Associate/Guest Lecturer in Project Management | Energy transition
Critical Project Lesson No.42 – Perspectives On the Project Manager With any project the focus for delivery and success is on the PM, as are any failings; perceived or otherwise. The reality of this type of work is that there are few plaudits, as complete success is the minimum expectation from all stakeholders. Anything less than this the PM will be viewed as accountable whether they are directly responsible or not for anything going awry. In these situations, he or she must retain belief in their own abilities, trust in that they have made evidence based decisions and acted in the best interests of the project. A project gets its energy from the PM this cannot be depleted through the opinions and perspectives of others. Stay true to yourself and have faith in your own abilities. There have been SO many theories thrown at me over the last few weeks as to why I am training at 5am on a Saturday and Sunday. Ideas from the very funny to the totally bizarre. Only I know why I am training as hard as I am to get to the summit of Kilimanjaro. I will stay focussed on that. The first half of this year is very busy as I will be: * Competing in a boxing match - DONE * Run the London Marathon in April - DONE * Climb Kilimanjaro in June (Now August) https://lnkd.in/eM969SBS OR https://lnkd.in/eM969SBS OR Text STEVIE24 to 70550 to make a single £5 donation.
