Putting children and families first in Philadelphia means not forgetting about their furry family members. The neighborhoods surrounding the families we serve aren't the most environmentally equitable, which can impact the mental health of both individuals and groups. This is detrimental to someone's physical health, as we've discussed in-depth in the ACEs study thanks to Dr. Nadine Burke Harris. I'm grateful to be a part of the C.A.R.E Companions and Animals for Reform and Equity team and their holistic approach to their mission. The stats on how many animals are currently displaced and how many of them could be in loving homes is staggering. Allowing families to provide the love they have to offer to animals would be impactful to the mental health of children, families and communities. We know that our government and systems in place push for policies and legislation that don't benefit the communities we seek to transform. By shifting restrictions to housing animals and allowing organizations like CARE to support families with resources, we can sustain the well-being of both the animal and the family. While we work on challenging housing policies, human and animal well-being, and other inequities, we have the power to create neighborhoods that we all want to be a part of and live in. Neighborhoods that we would be comfortable and feel safe enough to walk our animals and raise our families. We have a rare opportunity here, not just for Philly but for other cities as well. Let's work together with like-minded organizations to create a brighter future for all. #childrenfirst #familyfirst #humananimalwellbeing #communitytransformation #strongertogether Let's work together!

for all our dog lovers out there, Do not feed stray dogs anywhere you feel like. Yes, you heard us right. While it's absolutely great to be feeding them, there are specific guidelines you should be following when you do so. Here are some quick ones, you can keep in mind : • feed strays at designated areas • don't feed dogs in among the crowd or in a group of children around. • don't feed all the dogs at the same place. • don't force a pup to eat. feed them as much as they wish. • be kinder at all times. Make sure you take these necessary precautions and you're all set to go. I am deeply troubled by the tragic loss of over 520 unhoused individuals in Oregon this year. It's staggering to note that the average age of those who passed away while homeless is merely 49. Many of these devastating deaths could have been prevented. As a state, we have an urgent responsibility to do better. Root causes such as poverty, inadequate resources, and systemic issues demand our immediate attention. It's imperative that we give the people and community leaders a meaningful seat at the table and take their perspectives seriously. Beyond these alarming statistics are individuals with aspirations and hardships. Collectively, as a community, we possess the capacity to effect positive change. Let's take action. Extend compassion. Offer assistance where possible. Could be a warm meal, a kind word, or facilitating access to resources. Each small gesture can make an immense impact. Together, let's work towards preventing further tragedies. Let's forge a community where every individual, irrespective of their housing situation, experiences acknowledgment, value, and support. https://lnkd.in/gs9AKuFF

Wildlife rescue and care are challenging, both mentally and physically. Wildlife carers witness suffering and sometimes, even loss. Not every rescue has a happy ending. Let’s shine a light on the role of these incredible volunteers. They pour their hearts into caring for our #wildlife. From my book Saving Heroes: Many who are “helping” wounded warriors, homeless individuals, and underprivileged families have something in common: they enable the circumstance. Pacifying the situation with handouts, freebies, and coddling may give the provider satisfaction, but it is detrimental to the main objective. To truly help is to provide opportunity, empowerment, and hope. https://lnkd.in/eBni6gEM

Please, New York County must have millions of people who could afford to rescue these puppies. Become regular puppy foster parents, even if only periodically throughout the year. Time, money, love. Doubt whether most people envisage puppies being abandoned. These poor puppies. There needs to be a radically different approach to purchasing puppies. About removing the risk of creation with dogs - bitches in the main, whose owners cannot afford to have puppies arise. I want these puppies to be rescued a; fostered; found homes naturally. But there must surely be one billionaire that could provide the running costs for sterilisation - the place; technology; running costs helped by setting up a charity. Providing real life videos on the costs; time factor; sleepless nights; puppy behaviour; training; feeding; needs of particular breeds and follow the journey of that dog from puppy to aged dog. The costs, annually. People should have to attend classes; do tests; home visits BEFORE adopting/buying a puppy/dog. Most of all, dogs need to love & be loved as humans do but birth to adulthood - humans & dogs can be very challenging financially; emotionally and, as with motherhood/parenthood, people because of rosy tinted glasses versus life!
