It was a mess, costing them money & space. Then Happen Ventures stepped in with our Beneficial Reuse Program. Walgreens had a big problem. Hundreds of coolers were just sitting there, taking up valuable space in their warehouse. This is how we turned this challenge into a win for everyone… 1. We checked out the coolers… 2. We got them moving… 3. We teamed up… So what does this mean for Walgreens & the community? → They cut down on storage costs. → Walgreens freed up crucial space for new products. → Local charities got much-needed equipment for their communities. → They made a positive impact on the environment by giving the coolers a second life. Eddy from a local charity told us.. “We are grateful for your donation of 214 of these beautiful coolers. We have already given some to a local fire department for their use. Dignity-based support systems for families in crisis should be part of ALL programs, not just the day-to-day programs.

Recently, we had an incredible PACK the Van event at the Isle of Hope, where we got an exclusive tour of the P.A.C.K. warehouse and distribution center, guided by Malena Stone herself! The organization and beauty she has infused into this space are truly breathtaking. For those who appreciate an impeccably organized environment (yes, fellow OCD friends, I'm talking to you!), this place is a dream. The bag-packing area operates with unparalleled efficiency – a model of streamlined operations crucial for packing over 4,300 weekly bags for kids. With 1 in 3 children in Southeast Georgia facing food insecurity, the impact of this efficiency cannot be overstated. Malena explained there are another 2000 kids on the waiting list for these food bags! But there's more to the warehouse than just efficiency; the shop area, thoughtfully designed by Malena, creates an experience akin to shopping in a high-end store for the kids. This beautiful, clean, and welcoming space is where children can select clothes and supplies that would otherwise be unaffordable for them. Additionally, it's here that 'emergency bags' are prepared for kids in urgent need, often with nothing but the clothes on their backs. These emergency bags, akin to overnight bags, are equipped with a change of clothes and essential items to support the children for a day or two.   Words can not do justice to how impressive this place is – you have to see it for yourself. This campaign sees Walmart working alongside customers, members, and suppliers to benefit food banks in communities around the country – food insecurity is something many Americans face every day, and this program can help! Food Drive for "The Sisters Keepers" is still under way! We are half way through April and would love to see even more donations come through our doors! According to an article from WENY, Catholic Charities provided the following statistics: "According to Catholic Charities, in 2023, there were 1,357 distinct individuals who experienced homelessness and received services in Chemung County. 317 of those individuals were under the age of 18..." The need is great, and numbers are likely to have grown since then! Gift Back Friday is an idea based on connecting people and communities from far and wide that can help our local community of Manchester. In 2013, I spent every Saturday morning for 18 months providing care for the disadvantaged and marginalised at Many Rooms Kitchen in Melbourne. It opened my eyes to how quickly life can be flipped upside down and how close we all really are to suffering such fate. On returning to Manchester and setting up Blendsmiths, I was devastated to learn Manchester has some of the highest levels of homelessness in the UK – according to statistics published by Shelter in January 2023, Manchester ranks third-highest in the country for people experiencing homelessness per capita, with around 7,407 people (one in 74 people) experiencing homelessness. This is a huge, unacceptable number. We connected with a charity called Mustard Tree in 2018 who focus on combatting poverty and preventing homelessness. What could we do as small company just getting going ourselves? Support is the answer in any shape we could at the root cause of homelessness. Support has been through weekly donation of Blendsmiths products, % of sales and most recently we plan to offer training and education programs for Mustard Tree. In March 2023, 10,577 people walked through their doors, driven by: · Food costs driven by demand planned 7% decrease, actual 89% increase in price inflation and demand · Utilities – 55% increase in the plan - actual was 95% · Fuel inflation planned at 17% - actual peaked at 43% · Salary Inflation Plan was 2% from October - actual was between 5-9.5% from August · Income target was £1.74 million and actual was £2.1 million This Black Friday, we will be donating 25% of sales to Mustard Tree.
