What an amazing experience we had this week! We were delighted to host our esteemed partners at #AdventHealth, Dr. Ashley Ansara, elected officials and City leaders on a field trip to the Altamonte Springs Science Incubator (AS2I). During the field trip, we explored the world of #STEM with #SCPS Millennial Middle School students as they participated in hands-on activities and experiments at Lake Lotus Park and the Altamonte Springs Regional Water Reclamation Facility. It was truly an unforgettable experience! #AS2I is a program that motivates students to discover the practical applications of STEM in the real world. Our program covers various topics including the importance of microscopic organisms and the abundance of wildlife in a biodiverse ecosystem. Thank you all for accompanying us on this incredible journey! Your dedication to supporting STEM education and fostering innovation is truly valuable. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter, more empowered future. #LiveAltamonte #FutureLeaders #STEMEducation Frank Martz Lindse Murphy Jeffrey Villanueva Serita Beamon Ashley Ansara Seminole County Public Schools AdventHealth Jason Burton Rochelle Croskey Amanda Phillips Lee Ricci Anthony Apfelbeck Jim T. Science in the Subarctic Article by Jacqueline Monteith, Frontier School Division “We all have a relationship with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This relationship builds as we explore the world around us through experiences, interests, and exposure to new ideas. Fostering these relationships is phenomenal. It is even more phenomenal when we consider the very real and lasting impact that we have on our young people through STEM-based experiences.” Read the link to learn more about teaching students in the outdoors through a local lens. https://lnkd.in/e7eJyq4P

Here the recordings of the panel on "Education for the Energy Transition". For those that misses the highly insightful contributions. Highly recommended ▶️ https://lnkd.in/eDVehtsp https://lnkd.in/e3cfSksE
"History is a Race between Catastrophe and Education" wrote H.G. Wells. Darwin had earlier suggested "Survival of the Fittest" (meaning the best adjusted). In this pivotal century Climate & Energy Literacy are of crucial importance to survive and to avert catastrophe, but the language of climate change & energy transition has become so complicated that to many citizens it is incomprehensible. Yet our future depends on their understanding and acceptance of the implications. Will we rally around a joint 'smart response' or will we become Dodo Sapiens? Dinosaurs roamed this planet for 180 mio years. Our species only 2-300.000years. Thus far the Dinos beat Humans in longevity 1000 to 1. With our big brain, vocal cords and juxtapositional thumb we have shaped the prevailing eco-system on this planet more than any species did before us. Yet the irony is that #Antropocene means 'Era made by Humans' but it may become an 'Era unsuitable for Humans'. The educational challenge could not be clearer. As Civilisation Research's Zac Stein https://lnkd.in/eMRRKz6u says: "Schools are decades behind reality" I am honoured to moderate a panel with creative thinkers and deep experts in this field. Youssef El Bouhassani is a math teacher and co-initiator of www.LeerLevels.nl/english helping pupils & teachers to let more students study STEM longer. He was Teacher of the Year and is now developing a Sustainability Literacy module. Tycho Huussen is an experienced scientist, entrepreneur and physics teacher with a meta-perspective on education. Akshay Patil is a Future Energy Leader in the World Energy Council, combining his profession as data scientist with his passion for energy that has lead to www.theenergycompass.com. Jelte Bosma leads Darel Education providing masterclasses for secondary schools as well as for seasoned professionals in companies. Mille Bojer is co-founder of Reos Partners a social impact company that encourages collaborative approaches to crucial societal challenges. She co-authored "Mapping Dialogue: Tools for Social Change". In my keynote as ambassor of the EU STEM Coalition at the NEWTON Education Summit, I called for the need "to enable a civium of globally conscious scientients": https://lnkd.in/eiaHuJ3 It is exactly the kind of activities, platforms and projects that the panelist in this "Education for Energy Transition" panel undertake, that can lead to that objective being reached. June 6 webinar: Join National Science Foundation (NSF) program directors from the Division of Research, Innovation, Synergies and Education (RISE) in the Directorate for #Geosciences (GEO) regarding the new Focus on Recruiting Emerging #Climate and Adaptation Scientists and Transformers (FORECAST) program (NSF 24-558) in a virtual webinar to learn more about this new opportunity. The FORECAST program seeks to facilitate transitions from status-quo graduate career preparation to student-centered models with an emphasis on building entrepreneurial and innovation capacity through intentional professional development activities. Focused on developing cohorts of innovative scholars from emerging research institutions (ERIs) and groups historically excluded in STEM, FORECAST should help develop STEM talent adept in community resilience and the translation of research outcomes for societal benefits. NSF Program Directors will provide an overview of the FORECAST program followed by a question-and-answer session at a virtual webinar. https://lnkd.in/gT_nqtCy

If someone asked you to imagine a scientist, what would pop up in your mind? A chemist wearing a lab coat, holding beakers of colorful liquids? 👩🔬 Maybe a marine biologist, diving near coral reefs and studying the fish communities? 🐠 What about a bioinformatician, analyzing complex genetic codes? 🖥️ The field of STEM is diverse, and so are the scientists that live within each of us. SciAll.org aims to foster STEM identity in underrepresented groups, humanize scientists, demystify the process of scientific discovery, and make STEM career mentoring accessible to all. As a nonprofit, SciAll felt the weight of funding limitations, which makes it hard to connect with more members of their target audience. Our team volunteered our time and used our talents to provide them with marketing strategy guidance to further their mission. To learn more about SciAll’s impact, read our recent blog: https://hubs.li/Q02CSDwH0 #ScienceEducation #Accessibility #STEM #Diversity #LifeScienceMarketing
