I've been researching a scenario in which Major League Baseball would take over its broadcast rights; however, I wanted to figure out how many subscribers they may have on MLB.TV. There's a number speculated from 2019 and otherwise generally upward trends in overall minutes consumed each year (excluding 2020 as an example), but I haven't given up! Anyway, that quest led me to this piece from two weeks ago. If you're a marketer, I hope you're listening! - Average Attendance: Highest at this point in the season (end of April) since 2017. - National Broadcast Viewership: Up 13% or more (includes MLB Network). - Younger National Viewership: Up 30% or more (depending on the channel).
MLB attendance before May hits 7-year high

The TBL (The Basketball League) @tbasketballleague and the BSL (The Basketball Super League) @basketballsuperleague are both showcase leagues, as explained by their president and founder, David Magley, @coach_mags during an insightful hour-long podcast at @transcendmediaagency . Magley shared valuable insights about the leagues’ missions and successes. Be sure to watch the full episode for the complete discussion. The podcast featured Byron Johnson (TMO), @b_johnson84 Dominique Lee (President), @dlee_6 and Darryl Hepburn (General Manager) @_dhepburn Magley highlighted how both the TBL and BSL provide platforms not just for talented players but for everyone involved in the leagues. These opportunities extend to cheerleaders, broadcasters, referees, and others. For example, cheerleaders have advanced to the NBA, broadcasters have secured positions with ESPN, and referees have moved on to the G League and NBA. A handful of players have also successfully transitioned to the NBA, and several players have transitioned to various international leagues. TBL, being a showcase league, continues to open doors for all participants to achieve their professional dreams. #adifferentleague 🇺🇸🏀🇨🇦 “Where the SPIRIT of the GAME LIVES”

The Varsity * Looking for a backstory for why Adrian Wojnarowski left a $7 million per year job. * ESPN execs already are looking into who will replace Woj. The safest bet: they will replace him by a committee of National Basketball Association (NBA) insiders that already work for ESPN. * I asked NBC Sports production honcho Molly Solomon for the origin story of how Snoop became the on-air star during the Paris Olympics. * Lionel Messi launched a production company that will focus on film, television and live sports. * I identify two podcasts that sound like they are going to be good. Plus, it doesn't look like the presidential election will affect the National Football League (NFL)'s TV ratings like so many (including me!) expected. https://lnkd.in/ebAndz7k Plus, it doesn't look like the presidential election will affect the NFL's TV ratings like so many (including me!) expected. https://lnkd.in/ebAndz7k

Can you imagine the hype, popularity, and media attention that would result, assuming American Gridiron Football was finally made an Olympic sport, surrounding the time trials that would occur to see which NFL players would make the cut for the 2024 Olympic Team USA Starting Lineup? Which big names would make the team, and which would not? Which NFL teams would provide the most Olympic starters? How would the order go in terms of which teams would participate first, second, third, fourth, etc.? Which major TV networks would provide the live TV coverage of these time trials? We can only imagine, everybody. National Football League (NFL) NBC Sports CBS

This should be a thing for every sports broadcast. Last Thursday night (Thanksgiving night), the halftime of the Packers vs Dolphins game wasn’t just a bunch of obvious analysis and commercials (though there was that). NBC aired a 55-minute story on Dolphins’ fullback Alec Ingold. He grew up a huge Packers fan and was playing his first ever game in Lambeau Field. But the story was deeper. It was about Alec’s adoption. It was about the things he’s doing now to raise adoption awareness. Millions of us are sports fans. We root for teams and certain players. But sports leagues should take every minute they can to share the stories of people on (and off) the field. Storytelling can be marketing for sure, but it can go beyond that. It connects humans to other humans they don’t know. It gives people a reason to invest time. I’m not a Dolphins fan, but from now on when I hear Alec Ingold’s name, I’ll think about his story. I’ll think about adoption. I’ll think about what I can do to make a small impact on the world. And that wouldn’t be possible if NBC had just numbed its viewers with more pointless analysis, coach speak, or more truck/prescription/beer/whatever commercials. #marketing #storytelling https://lnkd.in/eXZZm_dk
