We celebrate the triumphs, resilience, and vibrancy of the transgender community. 💞 Our movement building at CHEVS is driven by a desire for a more inclusive and equitable society that embraces diversity and respects the inherent worth of every individual, regardless of gender identity. This week serves as a vital reminder that transgender rights are fundamental human rights. Let’s continue to amplify the voices of transgender persons, listen to their experiences, and work together to dismantle the barriers they face. #TransAwarenessWeek #TransRightsAreHumanRights #RespectForAll #transgenderawarenessweek

At NACSP, we stand in #solidarity with the global #LGBTIQ+ community. Human rights should never be under attack, and we are committed to supporting and uplifting voices for equality and freedom. While North African countries may lag behind in terms of LGBTQ+ rights and #freedom of #Pride, it's crucial that we all take the time to inform ourselves about the progress and challenges in other regions. Explore the comprehensive 'Pride Around the World' report by Outright International for 2023. It's an eye-opening journey that lets you visualize the status of LGBTIQ freedoms worldwide. #NACSP #LGBTIQRights #EqualityForAll #PrideAroundTheWorld"

#DYK that when Europeans arrived in the Americas, they documented encounters with two-spirit people? The term "Two-Spirit" does not simply mean someone who is a Native American/Alaska Native and gay. Traditionally, Native American two-spirit people were male, female, and sometimes intersex individuals who combined the activities of both men and women with traits unique to their status as two-spirit people. In most Tribes, they were considered neither men nor women; they occupied a distinct, alternative gender status. In many Tribes, two-spirit people were accepted and respected, but that changed with colonization. The colonizers, through forced assimilation efforts, changed acceptance into homophobia in many Indigenous communities. Today, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Natives throughout North America are reviving the Two-spirit role and its traditions. This month, and every month, we want to celebrate our LGBTQ2S+ relatives - happy Pride Month from #NIHB! #HealthyNativeCommunites #PrideMonth #NativePride #Pride2024

There is only one week left to take action by responding to the public consultation on the guidance which is open until 12 March. Here are four ways you can take action: 1. Section 28: The Queer Education We Never Had. For LGBT+ History Month. 20 years on from the repeal of Section 28, I spoke to WE CREATE SPACE about how leaders and businesses can prevent history from repeating itself. "20 years on from the repeal of Section 28, as important as it is to celebrate the progress and victories for LGBTQ+ rights and equality, it’s vitally important we recognise the way history has been repeating itself in recent years. We can draw many parallels from the attacks on gay rights back in the 80’s and 90’s to the experiences the trans community is facing in the UK today. I am reminded of the similarities when it comes to the increasing transphobia, down to almost identical language used by political leaders, the dis-informative media coverage and attempts to introduce trans exclusionary measures into businesses, schools, and education. But when we make strong comparisons by looking back into our history, we might just be able to find some answers and adopt similar methods to help us make positive change for the future. For organisations seeking to make improvements for their LGBTQ+ employees, any plan should include year round education, understanding of historical barriers faced by marginalised groups, and how that affects how people show up...." Happy Pride Month! June is Pride month, and holds a huge amount of importance for all LGBTQ+ people and allies. Pride stems from the Stonewall Riots which took place in New York in 1969, when an LGBTQ+ crowd decided to fight back at the injustice of the police invading their rights and queer spaces. Five days of rioting took place and changed gay and lesbian rights for ever. As a result of this, lots of legal and political changes have taken place and directly impacted the life of the LGBTQ+ community, such as the Same Sex Couples Act 2013. Pride is a fun and enjoyable time for everyone, where people are able to share their identity and be open with others. But it is also about raising awareness of the issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community and shining a light on the issues that still impact different parts the community. For example, although rights have improved for Lesbian and Gay people, trans people within the UK are still facing difficulties. Pride now represents solidarity, collectivity, identity and resistance to discrimination and violence, which is so important for everyone in order to live and identify without prejudice.

On International Transgender Day of Visibility, we stand united in acknowledgment of the discrimination and challenges that persist. 🏳️⚧️ This day is a call to action. As we honour the resilience of the transgender community, we also recognize our collective responsibility to stand up against discrimination, be vocal advocates and allies, and actively champion equality. Being an ally involves understanding, empathy, and support. We must continue to educate ourselves on the issues that transgender people face, challenge stereotypes, and actively listen to and learn from the experiences of transgender individuals. We’ll continue to create inclusive spaces that uplift and empower, ensuring that transgender voices are heard and valued on the waterfront and beyond. #TransgenderDayOfVisibility #LGBTQIA2S #TransDayOfVisibility #Allyship #Allies #StandUpForEquality #AllyshipMatters

🌈 While we still have work to do queer rights have come a long way since the Stonewall Riots in 1969, these are some of the key legal milestones in the journey for #QueerRights. 1️⃣ Stonewall Riots (1969): A turning point in the LGBTQ+ rights movement, sparking widespread activism. 2️⃣ Decriminalization of Homosexuality (2003, USA): Lawrence v. Texas case led to the landmark decision to decriminalize homosexuality. 3️⃣ Marriage Equality (2015, USA): A historic moment when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality in Obergefell v. Hodges. 4️⃣ Transgender Military Ban Lifted (2021, USA): A win for transgender rights, allowing all qualified Americans to serve their country in the military. 💬Today we honor the courage and determination of those who fought for these achievements, and continue to push for equality and acceptance in all aspects of life. #Pride2024 #LGBTQRights #Inclusion #diversity

A belated happy IDAHOBIT Day to all who identify, are part of our communities and to those questioning. On Friday, I sat on a panel across three VPS Departments with Carolyn Gillespie and Ryan Phillips to discuss this year’s theme: ‘no-one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all’. We discussed queer joy as resistence, allyship in the VPS and beyond, along with some sad facts regarding ongoing stigma and discrimination. A particular shout out to those who don’t always see themselves reflected in equality narratives: Rainbow Mob, people of colour and faith, intersex, asexual and bi+ communities, trans and gender diverse people, Rainbow families and gay dads not in the acronym and to the parents and carers of queer and trans kids. To the growing number of young people rejecting labels. To those who date LGBTIQA+ people but who identify as straight. To lesbians. To gays. Our liberation is intertwined. I also note the growing numbers of young people who do not identify as heterosexual: up to 18.9% of 16-24yos. LGBTIQA+ inclusion work will future proof our portfolios. See here: https://lnkd.in/gvB9A2YY 🖤🤎🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜 #equality #inclusion #IDAHOBIT
