Can you believe it’s already the last day of August? This month has flown by, but it's been absolutely wonderful! My theme for August was Gratitude, and I’ve made it my mission to have a month full of appreciation. There’s been so much to be grateful for: ✨️ Quality family time, celebrating GCSE results, birthdays, and our wedding anniversary weekend away ✨️Welcoming new clients and celebrating client successes ✨️The SHE Network - Business Networking for Women Summer Social and announcing the new SHE Network Membership ✨️One of my best months in business financially (after a wobbly start), plus award nominations and attending launch events ✨️Enjoying Book Club, book events, and dinners out with friends ✨️Getting back to the gym and even braving my new cold plunge! ✨️Tackling decluttering projects around the house that were driving me nuts ✨️Seeing TEDxWolverhampton videos being published ✨️Recovering from Covid for the sixth time and finally learning to put my health first There’s truly been so much to be grateful for this month. A huge thank you to everyone who’s been part of my gratitude challenge—I hope it’s helped you appreciate the little things and cultivate an abundant mindset. ❤️ Here’s to a Successful September as we kickstart the last third of the year! What have you been most grateful for this month? #goodbyeAugust #gratefulaugust #gratitude #gratitudemindset

Catapulting beauty & fashion brands to their next level of business growth with powerful media coverage | President at VLIV Communications, Inc.
What I'm grateful for: 2023 Edition WOW - I know we've still got about 6 weeks left, but 2023 has been a ride for my PR agency VLIV Communications and for me - but I wouldn't have it any other way. As we approach Thanksgiving, I'm feeling reflective of what I'm currently grateful for: 1) Lessons Learned 2023 went...NOT quite as expected in many cases. From twists and turns to things straight up not going as planned, it wasn't always easy. But the lessons learned have been priceless - and making mistakes, and LEARNING from them, is how we grow. 2) Connections I'm in a few networking groups and meet industry people in all sorts of ways, and some of the connections I've made this year have been so fulfilling. Particularly in meeting other women entrepreneurs who just GET this crazy business-owning ride we've all put ourselves on 🤪 3) The Power of Giving Jumping off of that, I've seen so many people be so giving and generous with their time and resources to help others out, and it's so inspiring and motivating for me to do similarly in 2024. 4) New Perspectives This year I challenged myself to read more and learn more from not so usual places for me - things outside the typical women business owner, PR/marketing and beauty/fashion/CPG spaces. It's important to stay open and I've gained insights into new ways of thinking and approaching work-related challenges. 5) What Really Matters While most of this relates to work (it IS LinkedIn, after all!) I'm so grateful to be in tune with what really matters. While I love my work and find it so fulfilling to help businesses grow with powerful press coverage, it's not all there is. I have incredible friends and family who support me through all of life's challenges and I'm so ridiculously grateful to all of them. I'd love to know - what's one thing YOU'RE grateful for this year? Let me know below!

Wise Woman With An Opinion | Thought Leader | Business & Data Intelligence | Keynote Speaker | Mentor | Coach | Author
Is it time to change perspective on your achievements? When do you have permission to claim your superhero status? This week I was offered to apply for a 2023 women of influence award and I immediately declined as being unworthy. Why did I do that you may ask? My reasons were that due to continued chronic illness from COVID vaccine injury and long COVID I had not delivered to my corporate employer or coworkers as I had in the previous 40 years. I had nothing to be proud of. When challenged about my self exclusion by the award committee member I had a rethink. Actually my 2023 has been a year of conciously choosing to understand and recover from my illness. I may not have completed this ambition however I have supported many people, illustrated immense personal strength and determination and discovered more deeply my purpose and identity away from the opinion of others who have different agendas and deliverables for my talents and skills. Is it time for you to reconsider your contributions, achievements and superhero status? The first step is to notice words like just and only when you talk about yourself. I am still an overachiever today as I have been my whole career. The only difference is I now focus on self, family, friends and community. Whether I win an award or not I am a winner today in my mind. #buildingyourmindsetmuscle #selfleadership #purpose #mindset #suddenlydifferent #longcovid

Yesterday, in my role as National Volunteer Partner for the American Red Cross's Supplier Diversity Engagement Team Joe H., I co-presented to their DEI team Adrienne Alberts. During introductions, attendees were asked to state one word that described 2023 and one word that would be their word for 2024. I had never done this exercise (especially from a retrospective aspect). My 2023 word was "Change". Although I didn't choose that word at the beginning of 2023, it was the perfect word for how my 2023 turned out. Change for me came when I left my previous employer after 17 1/2 years and started my own supplier diversity consulting firm. My word for 2024 is Perserverance. I'm looking forward to growing MDG Consulting Services, LLC. What is your word for 2024 and why is that your word? What was your word for 2023 and was that word fitting for how 2023 turned out? #supplierdiversity

If you’re asking why black women need their own professional development conference, let me put it into perspective. Black Women only make up 7.4% of the US population. 77% are in administration roles and less than 2% are in VP or C-Suite roles. Additionally black employees only make $0.63 to the dollar and the median income is $50K.. Whereas the majority represents 35% of the US population and make up 57% of VP or C-Suite roles. (McKinsey study and summarized by the Ivy Kusinga) The insurance industry makes up $843.6 billion (as of 2022). Our industry has the authority and ability to DISRUPT and embrace diverse and equitable opportunities. WE belong in all spaces where decisions are made. This conference was filled with sessions on how we take our superpowers and turn them into professional competitiveness. Be a compass and identify your passions and strengths (and even weaknesses) ➡️ turn them into bold moves (fight your fears) ➡️ Build intentional relationships and find your alliances/sponsors/mentors ➡️ Self-care is fuel ➡️ be a walking ROI and leave a legacy to lift others up And get this! All 200 of us walked a sisterhood second line through the streets of New Orleans representing insurance. I’ve never seen so many wide eyes asking what we do! Thank you to The Hartford for being an event sponsor yet again. I’m taking all these valuable lessons and experiences to pour into myself AND others. If you see a new Krista Scott in 2024, it’s because I attended this conference 🤗 🗣️‼️‼️This post got a lot of attention! So I need to give the flowers upon flowers to my sister Ngozi Nnaji for her vision in making this happen. And a LOUD round of applause to the ladies that executed an enormous ask Sherita Hardy LaShon Harris Krystal Lugg Sylvia K. Alston Tisa Rabun-Marshall, MBA Helaina Jolly! Well done ladies! #iwork4thehartford #gamechanger #takingaction #watchout #impact #levelupyourcareer #IAmChargedUp

Something hit me differently today. I tuned into "Morning Mika" and was struck by the powerful event she has hosted since 2014. I saw women of all ages worldwide unite to lift each other and celebrate our worth and value. It got me thinking about my journey. I've been caught up in the "what ifs" and "should haves" of my early career for too long. Yet, I was inspired by watching these incredible women—some well into their golden years—exude confidence, vigor, grit, and innovation. They dared to pursue their dreams despite life's challenges. A profound insight was shared: life gets better after 50. Dreams can and do come true after 50. Seeing Vice President Kamala Harris take on this enormous challenge of pursuing the US presidency, I saw a reflection of myself. Her journey renews my confidence that life is not over; it's just beginning. I'm finding my voice and my place in this world. While I might not save the world, I CAN influence my corner of it. I AM the change I seek. I CAN realize my dreams and truly live. Even amidst chaos, there is HOPE. Here are a few takeaways to hold onto: 1️⃣ Age is just a number, but wisdom is priceless. Life gets better after 50, and so do our dreams. They're just starting to take flight. 2️⃣ We can look to those who've paved the way. VP Kamala Harris isn't just making history; she's showing us what's possible when we step into our power. 3️⃣ Our voice matters. We may not change the whole world, but WE can change OUR world. Start small, think big. We're not just surviving; we're thriving. The chaos around us? That's just the backdrop to our greatness. Remember, we are the change we seek. Our dreams are valid, life is valuable, and time is now. So tell me, are you ready to write your next chapter? Hear me, it's going to be our best one yet. #BlackWomenLead #DreamsAfter50 #EmpoweredWomen #FindingMyVoice #BIPOC #WomenSupportingWomen #LivingMyBestLife #MorningMika

Empowering Inclusive Leadership & Advancing Women’s Careers 🚀 | Corporate Diversity Trainer 👩🏫 | Championing Gender Equality & Confidence in the Workplace 🎯
👍 if you are the one to organize Bday gifts for team members ❤️ if you strategically use "name-dropping" in meetings Let me explain why I'm asking you this. 90% of my female participants in workshops cheerfully raise their hands and say: "Yes, I love to organize presents and parties for my team. I am the go-to person for that." OK Also, 90% of my female participants say: "Can you please explain the "name-dropping" a bit more?" Now, the first behavior will get you #1 on that go-to organizer list, some thank you's, and lots of UNPAID and UNRECOGNIZED work. This is one of the most iconic disappearing acts which puts businesswomen in the stereotypical position - the one that takes care of everybody else, but not their career progression. The second behavior puts you in the driving seat! It shows that you are strategic, think about who you network with, and take your career seriously. It means that you're CHOOSING your tactics and planning your moves. Like it or not, there are transparent rules and there are unwritten rules in the workplace. The sooner you accept it, the sooner you will start loving the game and progress! This is just one of the many tweaks and tips I give my participants in the Stratego for Women program we crafted at In Touch Female Leadership & Career Academy. We work in a small, consistent group of a maximum of 6 businesswomen to build your professional confidence and leadership skills. I am proud that 80% of the women who participate in the program achieve their career goals during its duration of 6 months. The next cohort is scheduled for the end of October 2024. 🚀 If you are ready to transform your career, just comment "INTERESTED" and I'll put you on the waiting list and get in touch. 💫 P.S. I'm not saying buying presents is bad, it's amazing! Just don't always be the one to do it. Delegate, so others can feel the joy and shared effort as well :) 📸 Elena Fidanovska

🌟 Reflecting on the Journey So Far... 🌟 I recently had the incredible opportunity to complete my application for the West Country Women in Business Awards after being very kindly nominated in the Property and Construction category. When I first looked at the application, I was overwhelmed—so many questions about my achievements and our businesses. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I could even fill it out. Our property and construction businesses only really started in January this year, and I felt like I had nothing to say, especially compared to the amazing women I’ve met at these events. But a few months passed, and after attending more networking events, my perspective began to shift. I realised that even though I’m new to this specific journey, I didn’t just start in January. I’ve been working since I left education at 17, often in male-dominated industries, frequently the youngest in my position, and constantly having to prove myself. I’ve earned a degree, a chartership, and built a long career that brought me to where I am today—a business owner of two companies and a proud mum of three young children. So, I sat down with a cup of tea and took a deep breath. I started reading the questions again, and this time, I saw them differently. One question really stood out: "Why have I been nominated for this award?" My initial response was, "No idea, why have I?!" But then I looked at the nomination words: passion, tenacity, dedication, and a commitment to doing the best job possible. And you know what? Yes, that is me. I have poured my heart and soul into setting up our businesses and pushing them forward as quickly as possible. I don’t take no for an answer—I find solutions and keep going until it’s solved! But beyond my dedication to the businesses, I realised my personal growth has been extraordinary. Before 2024, I had never been to a networking event. My first was PBN at The Ivy in Exeter, and oh my gosh, the drive there was pure torture. I didn’t know anyone and felt like such an imposter. But thanks to some amazing women who reached out to me, I started to find my place. Fast forward eight months, and I’m a different person. Networking doesn’t terrify me anymore. Yes, I still worry about what I’m going to say, but I’ve realised everyone is there for the same reason—to meet others. And maybe, just maybe, someone out there wants to meet me too! This personal growth, this newfound confidence, that’s my biggest win this year. Here’s to continuing the journey, embracing the challenges, and celebrating every little victory along the way! 💪✨ #WomenInBusiness #PersonalGrowth #WestCountryWomen #NetworkingJourney #PropertyAndConstruction #ImposterNoMore

What's the secret to having a great company culture? Ask 100 people, and you'll get 100 different answers, but here's mine: Gratitude. It's one of our core values, but it's not just something we wrote down and hoped would happen. Our team practices gratitude daily. 1 - Gratitude for each other Please and thank you are nonnegotiables, but there's more to it. We are grateful for the team we get to work with, both internally and with our strategic partners. 2 - Gratitude for our clients We genuinely love our clients and are grateful they choose to work with us. We regularly make an effort to express this. 3 - Gratitude for our opportunities We are blessed with opportunities. Opportunities to work, support our families, grow, learn about awesome businesses and nonprofits, succeed, fail and learn lessons, and serve others. Don't get me wrong. We're human and can certainly take things for granted sometimes. But we do our best to be grateful and build a culture of gratitude. How do you cultivate gratitude in your work environment?

From boardrooms to dressing rooms, many of you have gotten to know Lisa Sun through her lifestyle brand and national best-selling book, GRAVITAS. It was love at first sight when Lisa brought her force of confidence power to American Staffing Association's THRIVE—a pre-convention program to Staffing World for women in staffing and their allies to learn and grow together. So it was a true pleasure to have her join our last Lady Leaders book club of the year! (There’s a link to the Lady Leaders website in the comments to learn more about what we’re all about!) A fashion entrepreneur and former McKinsey & Company consultant, Lisa’s book, Gravitas, was born out of being told she should have more gravitas at 22 years old. “Lisa comes across as young and overly enthusiastic at times. She should seek to have more gravitas.” ☝️That is what Lisa Sun’s boss wrote in her first review as a business analyst at the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company. Well, fast forward two decades, and Lisa's got the ultimate playbook to redefine confidence that doesn't involve a performative faking it until you make it! Lisa is resetting the cultural standard for confidence with a research-based playbook that helps us feel confident through deploying our strengths. What I love most is understanding confidence is not just for ourselves, it strengthens our relationships and helps us shine a light on others and their superpowers. Confidence is universal. If you’re human, you’ve most likely grappled with it at some point in your life. Lisa has been such a gift in my life, so allow me to introduce you to her new take on creating your power and living with self-assurance. 🚀 Take a sneak peek into Lisa's world with her confidence language quiz. I did, and my top confidence languages (or superpowers as they're called on the quiz!) are: leading, giving, creating, believing, self-sustaining. Drop a comment with yours after taking the quiz – let's compare superpowers! Looking for a last minute or anytime gift idea? Buy her book (link in comments!) and a gift card to her online shop! Need a speaker for a company event? Get ready to be inspired and book Lisa. 🙏🏻 #LadyLeaders #TogetherWeRise #GRAVITAS #WomenInStaffing #WomenInLeadership #ConfidenceLanguage #Confidence
