I have been part of the development and maturation of several software categories in my career. These are arduous journeys that require unnatural amounts of stamina. Along the way, I look for clues that the category has longevity. These could be increasing customer and investor interest, social proof like G2 and TrustRadius, and an increase in vendor entrants. There is another important marker on this journey and that is the first full buyer’s report from one of the major analysts.
