It is Women in Construction Week and I'd love it if you voted for Somerville Architects and Engineers's hard hat design today! Our theme is, "WOMEN are the blueprint for SUCCESS". Somerville is a 100% employee-owned company, 66% of our executive leadership team are women, and nearly 33% of our staff are women. Our numbers are pretty amazing when compared to the industry averages.... According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics: - 27% of professionals who specialize in Architecture & Engineering are women - 10.9% of professionals who special in Construction are women - 16% of AEC firms employ women in c-suite level positions Vote today, tomorrow, and Wednesday for your favorite hard hat. Setbacks have affected women’s and girls’ struggles for equality and equity in recent years, yet the share of total philanthropic support going to women’s and girls’ nonprofits barely covers costs. In fact, research from the Women's Philanthropy at Indiana University (WPI) shows that less than 2% of all charitable gifts in America goes to women’s and girls’ organizations. We are celebrating the wonderful women of AFP Houston who continue to Lead From the Future. Here are some fun facts about Women's Philanthropy from our friends at United Way of Kenosha County: 1. Women and girls reinvest an average of 90% of their income in their families, compared to a 30–40% reinvestment rate for men. 2. By 2026, women’s charitable giving would reach $1 trillion annually if women gave at 1.7%. 3. Women are more likely than men to give to charity. Women are more likely to give and give more to every charitable subsector with a few exceptions. 4. Women spend more time than men researching organizations before making charitable giving decisions and place greater importance on hearing the impact of their gift. 5. Women are more likely to volunteer and volunteer more hours than men. AFP Houston also honors the women on its own board of directors, with over 75% of the board comprised of women leaders who serve a variety of nonprofits and partners in our community. These women and the other women in our membership are all dedicated to making Houston a better place. Tag an inspiring woman in your life in the comments below!

A group of women (and allies) who believe in women. Who support women in their most vulnerable moment - women who being evicted, single mothers who have mustered up the courage to take themselves and their babies away from their abuser; women who have had surgery and lost their employment and are unable to feed their children. You are part of their healing by helping to provide them the direct financial support they receive once their application is approved. 52 women applied for financial assistance in the first 15 days of this month. 🤯 One of the hardest parts of this job is having the deny applications because our monthly funding has been met. This community has the capacity to take action and change that. Where do all those pads and tampons go, and where did they come from?! Program Coordinator Karen introduces some of the nonprofits we work with to help women in need, and shares how much we rely on individuals and businesses in our community to help us keep our shelves full. Friends, I am reaching out to you on behalf of Women of Life. Each year on Labor Day we donate "bags of love" to two nonprofits that support women in need. The first, Women of Gilgal, is a recovery center for women experiencing homelessness due to drug and alcohol addiction. The second, Victoria's Friends, is an organization whose mission is to help women get out of the sex trafficking industry by providing support and helping them to heal and be restored.   These two organizations provide refuge for women who have faced the unimaginable challenges of domestic violence, homelessness, drug addiction, sex trafficking, and other hardships.
