Setbacks have affected women’s and girls’ struggles for equality and equity in recent years, yet the share of total philanthropic support going to women’s and girls’ nonprofits barely covers costs. In fact, research from the Women's Philanthropy at Indiana University (WPI) shows that less than 2% of all charitable gifts in America goes to women’s and girls’ organizations.
How can you help morph this drop-in-the-bucket into a bold new funding wave?
We suggest you start by giving to WomenStrong International! We help strengthen the capacity of women-led organizations across the globe, working in the areas of girls' education, women's health, economic security, and preventing violence against women and girts.

Less than 2% of charitable giving in the United States goes to women and girls—and only a fraction of that goes to supporting girls and young women of color. This #InternationalWomensDay, we're calling on philanthropy to #InvestInWomen by creating spaces where adolescent girls and young women of color can learn, play, dream, and become powerful movement leaders.
Tides Foundation's Advancing Girls Fund powers grantmaking for girls and young women of color and their allies. Since 2021, we’ve granted more than $61.9M to 150+ girl-centered organizations in 20 countries, 90% of which are BIPOC-led. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ercMjJxw

❤️ Get ready for #GivingTuesday2023 tomorrow! Let's celebrate the spirit of giving and empower the lives of women and girls, building stronger communities along the way.
❗❗ Surprisingly, only a meager 1.9% of charitable donations support #women and girls' organizations. The numbers are even worse for those aiding #womenofcolor, receiving less than 0.5%!

Did you know that half of women in the U.S. are single due to being widowed, divorced, or having never married? If you, as a charity leader can identify and speak to the unique needs of women, the opportunity exists for you to empower their giving, legacy planning, and finish-line focus in dramatic ways.
Legacy may mean something entirely different to them than it did to their parents or their spouses. In this webinar, we’ll consider what it looks like for charities to serve women givers with greater intentionality and understanding – especially engaging those who are going it alone.

We are celebrating the wonderful women of AFP Houston who continue to Lead From the Future. Here are some fun facts about Women's Philanthropy from our friends at United Way of Kenosha County:
1. Women and girls reinvest an average of 90% of their income in their families, compared to a 30–40% reinvestment rate for men.
2. By 2026, women’s charitable giving would reach $1 trillion annually if women gave at 1.7%.
3. Women are more likely than men to give to charity. Women are more likely to give and give more to every charitable subsector with a few exceptions.
4. Women spend more time than men researching organizations before making charitable giving decisions and place greater importance on hearing the impact of their gift.
5. Women are more likely to volunteer and volunteer more hours than men.
AFP Houston also honors the women on its own board of directors, with over 75% of the board comprised of women leaders who serve a variety of nonprofits and partners in our community. These women and the other women in our membership are all dedicated to making Houston a better place. Tag an inspiring woman in your life in the comments below!
Who are the forgotten women? Why care about somebody I don't know? It doesn't impact me, so I don't need to bother myself with it.....
Let's break the stigma and their silence, stand up, and educate ourselves and those around us. Support those without a voice and those who are too scared, embarrassed, or worried about judgment!
'The Forgotten Women', over 40,000 Queensland women over the age of 55 are homeless. Sadly this figure is due to increase twofold by 2036!
With over 700 based in greater Brisbane. That is 700 women who are someone’s aunt, mother, or grandmother, struggling to keep their heads above water, often doing so in silence.
I am calling all my LinkedIn friends, family and colleagues,
Stand with me and support my team, we are taking on the Live Like Her Challenge 2024 to help more homeless women over 55 into homes. For one night, we will sleep in a car to raise awareness and funds for The Forgotten Women project, an initiative that is close to our hearts.
This initiative hits close to home for me. I have seen close friends struggle to find suitable accommodation for their families, especially elderly mothers and grandmothers who have even had to couch surf with only the clothes on their backs and without the medication some need due to having to decide which bill to pay, the house, power or food?? We can never judge one's circumstances, but we can certainly change our thought process and help rather than hinder.
For some, homelessness is due to financial strain, domestic violence and, in some situations, families who don't want anything to do with them.
In a situation most of us could never imagine, these women often hold their heads high and suffer in silence, but they deserve a warm, safe home. Let's help raise awareness for such a worthy cause.

We believe that businesses and organizations can create ripples of positive impact in all areas…
💙 Within leadership
💙 With their teams
💙 With their business
💙 And, in the larger community
Every year, each member of the CoCreate Work team selects a non-profit organization to make a donation. And for our 5-year anniversary we are making an additional donation.
Check out the four organizations we’ve donated to that are making impact in their respective communities:
🌏 Teens of Color Abroad - Providing high school students of color with enriching language learning opportunities.
💜 The Loveland Foundation - An organization focused on providing Black women and girls, nationally, the opportunity to receive therapy support.
🌐 ActionAid - ActionAid is a global federation working for a world free from poverty and injustice.
🫂 S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls - The S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls was created to help girls and young women have access to opportunities that they need to succeed in life.

If part of your holiday season includes giving to important causes, I want to share that, out of all the worthy organizations that deserve support, racial justice nonprofits need us more than ever. Many large philanthropies have walked away from their justice portfolios. It is part of what Stacey Abrams and Julián Castro describe in their article, "It’s Open Season on Civil Rights. Philanthropy Must Not Retreat" as the “great retrenchment on racial justice funding”.
I am giving to Embracing Equity to ensure that they do not join the growing list of justice organizations being forced to close their doors. Embracing Equity has developed the vital expertise needed to support schools, other organizations, and individuals in making the concrete changes we need for a more just world. I can wholeheartedly vouch for the excellence of Embracing Equity's work, but you are also invited to learn more about their effectiveness (https://lnkd.in/gJG6uGfK) and an one example of how their support is changing schools (https://lnkd.in/gEKKtMq6).
Please join me in supporting their goal of raising $30K by 12/31/23 by giving whatever you can and passing this message on.
“Our nation faces no more important charitable purpose right now than to defend the right to fight racism.” —Stacey Abrams and Julián Castro

This Giving Tuesday, we need YOU. Today, you can help continue trust-based investments in women and girls, groundbreaking research, and intersectional advocacy for change. Your donation makes this essential work possible in 2024.
The daily realities of women and girls are easily ignored when their perspectives are excluded from the places where decisions are made. With your help, we can change that by continuing to advocate and lift up the real challenges women and girls face with decision-makers.
Right now, we know a huge funding gap remains: just 1.8% of charitable giving goes to organizations focused on women and girls. With your help, we can change that with more trust-based funding in 2024.

We all know that what gets measured get’s done, right? The impact of philanthropic donations is not always clear.
Well, I attended the launch this week at Minter Ellison of a survey which would be fascinating for many of our clients. Australians Investing In Women (AIIW) in partnership with the Champions of Change Coalition brought us a presentation by Garreth Chandler of the findings from AIIW’s inaugural State of Gender-wise Giving Survey 2023.
The survey explores the consideration of gender in giving by the AFR’s Top 50 corporate and private philanthropists. The results were very interesting and if you care what impact your money is having on girls and women. I encourage you to get in get in touch with Australians Investing In Women info@aiiw.org.au.
They are sending benchmarking to those who contributed to the survey so that they can know and improve the impact of their giving. I strongly suggest you get involved in the next survey if you can. Julie Reilly OAM
