Proud to be an Alumni of Consumer, Apparel, & Retail Studies Department at UNCG! Congratulations Class of 2024. It's hard to believe that I graduated over 33yrs ago from the "G." I was literally the first Auto-cad Computer class. We literally with the teacher had to figure it out together. That experience taught me that it's not what you know, that always gets you to the next level but that you have the aptitude, inquisitiveness and that you are willing to find a way in the dark. The professor was transparent and admitted that she had not been trained on the program. She thought it was a great display of team effort to create our own mode of operation and push each other into the 21st Century of Tech. Around that same time "Prodigy" was the brain child of Sears and Roebuck company that attempted to move into the age of the internet but they were too early and only had a hint of what was to come. Had they forged that path a little longer they may have become the Amazon of today. Sears formerly was the King of Retail Communication sending out the infamous Christmas Sears & Roebuck catalog every year. They almost remained the King of the Hill. Lesson: Into the dark we all may go but he who creates the flashlight or a flash of light will become the bolt that drives your mission into the next dimension. #foodforthought #sears #amazon #retail #missiondriven #uncg #whatsnext #innovation #ingenuity #human #thoughleaders #brainstorming

Do you have a no D!£%head policy? Turns out it’s good for business. Yesterday I had the privilege of listening to the Chair of the Welsh Rugby Union Richard Collier-Keywood talk eloquently about the important Welsh cultural asset he is now responsible for and the need for it to serve all stakeholders i.e. benefit society beyond the bottom line. In business it’s known as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) which emerged as a concept in the 1960s. Back then it was seen as an altruistic means of doing more with a business than just making money, but it was assumed it would involve sacrificing profit to achieve it. The growing evidence shows this is not the case. Being environmentally responsible, inclusive and serving of all stakeholders (customers, employees, investors, the environment and wider society) builds a strong brand, customer engagement, profit and also investment opportunities. The All Blacks have an NDH (No D!£%head) policy. They clean their own dressing rooms, carry their own bags and essentially show humility, accountability and a recognition of all the stakeholders in their organisation. For me, corporate social responsibility boils down to common sense, respect and humility. It’s good to see those leading our national game going forward aspire to the same ethos. And at a time of such high attrition in business in general, would it not be best to have a smart business model that ensures that everyone in the eco system is incentivised to see the venture succeed?

Equity Release Advice Equity Release is a favourite topic in the personal finance world, but what is it all about? Equity Release is a plan available to home owners (with or without mortgages) who are over the age of 55. If the home is owned by a couple, the younger of the pair should be at least 55 years old. The plan is simple. These days it is commonplace for homeowners to have built up significant equity in their properties. For the sake of this article; Equity = Value of property minus any mortgage outstanding. The homeowner can borrow, tax-free, from the equity. The older the borrower the greater will be the amount of equity that can be drawn down from the home. How do you calculate equity release? To calculate the maximum loan available on an equity release plan, you require the age of the youngest homeowner and the property value. Plans start from age 55 when you can release around 22.5% of your properties value. On average, on each birthday you can release an extra 1%, up to around 55%. We recommend seeking independent advice for anyone looking at the possibility of using Equity Release to raise cash. The money raised can be used for any legal purpose. Interest is added to the amount of equity accessed and this can be deferred until death or earlier admission to a care home. Alternately the borrower can make voluntary interest payments. We at Regents Court Financial, directly authorised by FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) in the UK, will take the borrower from start to finish They will receive all advice and information so that they can decide what is best for them. We will also advise if an alternative arrangement is more suitable to the client’s circumstances. Clients usually approach us by recommendation from friends, family and professionals including, financial advisers mortgage advisers, accountants, solicitors and others. It was a true delight to welcome back to campus the fun-loving Monica Bertino Wooden ’81 and her entourage of family and friends as we all celebrated Bertino Field at Butterfield Stadium. Even beyond Monica’s amazingly generous and transformative gift, our fans had much to cheer about last week: first, the opening of the field, which is now named in her honor, and then a decisive victory there on Saturday. Ithaca College Football is undefeated at home! We thank Monica, and may her collaborative and competitive spirit inspire us to new heights! https://lnkd.in/eifuzRSx
