FRIDAY FEATURE | CLAYWORKS at CoorsTek Tryba Architects reports that construction is underway at the 12.4-acre former CoorsTek industrial site in Golden, which is being reimagined by AC Development Co. as a new mixed-use development, Clayworks. The current #demolition is making way for CoorsTek, Inc.'s highly sustainable new 180,000 SF global corporate headquarters. Portions of the historic buildings will be adaptively reused. “We’re thrilled to start the next chapter in our family’s 130-year relationship with Golden on this site, and we intend to set the tone early for sustainability and innovation with our new headquarters,” said CoorsTek CEO Michael Coors. First phase of construction and design elements include: Stabilization of buildings to be restored, demolition of numerous structures, infrastructure planning and construction, and design of multiple commercial buildings. At completion, the first phase will include approximately 275,000 square feet of new and adaptively-reused office space, 10,000 square feet of restaurant/retail space, new 8th and 9th Street connections through the site, below-grade parking and a plaza. Successive phases will feature significant additional public open spaces, an arts district, innovative mobility strategies, mixed-income housing, additional retail and a hotel — all accomplished within a district-wide net zero carbon and wellness strategy. I support the success of all #commercial and #industrial construction and believe #steel structures provide unrivaled strength and durability for all purposes. Ontario building code rules for wet lab space do not make it possible to use mass timber. Executive Director at NYC Public Design Commission. Mother of two rambunctious boys. Course creator at Creative RFP Toolkit teaching architects how to craft persuasive proposals that land.
The Public Design Commission defines design excellence as championing multi-faceted projects that are representative and supportive of the lived experience of all New Yorkers. As the first of what we hope are many pioneering collaborations with our capital agencies, we can continue to work together to shape an urban environment that prioritizes the needs and aspirations of our communities and inspires all those who call New York City home. “This partnership between the Public Design Commission and Department of Design and Construction represents the best of Mayor Adams' ‘Get Stuff Built’ mantra to streamline capital project review without compromising the vision of quality design,” said Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development and Workforce Maria Torres-Springer. “These recommendations prove we can transform our longstanding systems to focus on equitable, responsive design while simultaneously streamlining the building process.” Established over 125 years ago, PDC has been instrumental in shaping how buildings on City property are envisioned, detailed and constructed. PDC commissioners include design professionals, art professionals and lay members who receive agency and public testimony at regular public hearings. As the administration moves towards methods to expedite capital project delivery, PDC has spent countless hours soliciting feedback from stakeholders, working with City agency partners and identifying ways to fine-tune its project review procedures—all while carrying forward equitable design principles that have stood the test of time. Efficiency does not need to come at the expense of good design, as well-designed structures are more resilient, more adapted to public uses and require less maintenance.

The changes to Part L of the #BuildingRegulations and the upcoming Future Homes Standard are placing architects and manufacturers at the centre of the push to create a sustainable built environment. This will have ramifications beyond the residential sector. The sustainability-first mindset that architects will be required to adopt in one area will be easily transferred to other areas. Learn more about the changes, what they mean and why architects should prioritise #sustainablearchitecture across all sectors: https://lnkd.in/eQRPXc4K #Specwall #sustainableconstruction

Understanding the Failures: Why Local Builders Struggle with Cost-Effective Construction and Space Utilization Without a Good Architect Local builders play a crucial role in shaping the built environment of our communities. Here are Some Important reasons why Builders Failed - 1. Ignoring Design Considerations : One of the most common mistakes local builders make is overlooking the importance of thoughtful design. Without a clear design vision, projects can lack cohesion and fail to meet the needs of their occupants. A good architect brings expertise in spatial planning, aesthetics, and functionality, ensuring that every project is thoughtfully designed to optimize space and enhance livability. 2. compromising the quality and durability : In an effort to save costs, some local builders may cut corners on materials and construction methods, compromising the quality and durability of their projects. A good architect can help identify cost-effective solutions without sacrificing quality, ensuring that buildings are built to last and meet the highest standards of craftsmanship. 3. Lack of Coordination and Planning: Effective coordination and planning are essential for the successful execution of any construction project. Without proper oversight, local builders may encounter delays, budget overruns, and communication breakdowns. A good architect acts as a project manager, coordinating with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to keep the project on track and within budget. 4. Overlooking Regulatory Requirements: Navigating the complex landscape of building codes, zoning regulations, and permitting requirements can be daunting for local builders. Failure to comply with regulatory requirements can result in costly delays and legal issues. A good architect is well-versed in local building codes and regulations, ensuring that projects are designed and executed in compliance with the law. 5. Missing Opportunities for Innovation Innovation is key to staying competitive in the construction industry. Local builders who fail to embrace new technologies and sustainable building practices may miss out on opportunities to differentiate themselves and attract clients. A good architect stays abreast of the latest trends and innovations, incorporating cutting-edge solutions into their designs to deliver superior results. Why Choose Elegance Architects: At Elegance Architects, we excel in guiding local builders through every stage of their projects, from initial design to final execution. With our team of skilled architects, we ensure that every aspect of your project is carefully considered and executed to perfection.
