"...There are serious challenges to making sure low-income people are able to reap savings from community solar. Those challenges include the often onerous and intimidating process of qualifying a household as 'low-income,' and the challenge of gaining trust and raising awareness among marginalized communities who have been largely left out of the clean energy shift." The above is another reason why we're hiring a Community Solar manager! Market correction OR market destruction? What do you think? Regardless of their intent, the result of this decision by the California Public Utilities Commission and Gov. Newsom's office is a major turning point for residential solar in CA and a huge win for monopoly #utilities like Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The economic, social, and environmental impact of cutting demand for residential #solar by 80%+ and jobs by 17,000+ will be felt throughout CA. To my solar brothers and sisters: How are you coping? How can I help? Please DM if you are hiring, searching, or just want to chat.
What's happened since California cut home solar payments? Demand has plunged 80%

Helping clean-tech companies create innovative digital products efficiently - Director of Product Management
Solar applications in California dropped a staggering 90% YoY in May 2023 as a consequence of the introduction of NEM 3.0 While this is bad in the short term for the industry I’ve seen these kind of dramatic swings many times over my 15 years career in solar. Layoffs are always painful but eventually technology will improve and companies adapt to the changing regulation and growth will come back. #NEM #solar #california #believe https://lnkd.in/eWV2R4eH

California has witnessed an 80% decline in rooftop solar installations, resulting in over 17,000 job layoffs (representing 22% of the industry), with more anticipated. The state, once at the forefront of residential solar, attributes the decline to unpopular policy shifts such as the implementation of Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 and recent market rate cuts for rooftop solar generation by renters, schools, and farms. These policy changes have reduced compensation rates for exporting local solar energy to the grid by approximately 75%. While state regulators argue that these changes are necessary for grid evolution, critics contend that they primarily protect the profits of major utilities. https://lnkd.in/erJJqiqM #CaliforniaSolar #RooftopSolar #SolarInstallations #CleanEnergyCrisis #GridEvolution #UtilityPolicy
