Shocking to read in new report from Chance UK that children as young as 5 are being excluded from school. 90% of children excluded at primary age won't pass GCSE English or Maths. Students in CA’s rural border counties are struggling to meet statewide test score standards for Math and English. All 9 teacher education deserts we identified in our new report fall below the state average of students who met or exceeded the English Language Arts (47%) and Mathematics (35%) portions of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Low-performing schools require increased workloads for teachers, who are expected to provide individual support, differentiated instruction, and participate in customized remediation strategies. Research also indicates that highly qualified teachers are substantially more likely to leave low-performing schools (Boyd et al., 2005). Let's talk special educational needs... To access education we first need to understand the barriers to learning our children and young people face. We need accurate identification of need to know how best to support, remove barriers and help our students thrive. This morning I was fortunate to work 1:1 with a young person who said, "I just want to be a good reader." Her obstacle to reading was not her phonological knowledge for reading fluency and it was not her ability to comprehend verbally however more a specific Literacy need along with a receptive language need. This young person had got through most of their educational journey through masking and copying peers. Fascinating that it takes someone from somewhere else with comparative experience to say what English teachers can't. Secondary Education in the UK has hit rock-bottom as the disinhibited children that have known for decades that there are NO consequences at home nor are there any in-school. The children I'm talking about are those of parents unable to say NO to their children nor are they effectively correcting poor behaviours or providing some sort of reasonable role model differentiating pro-social -v- anti-social behaviours frightened of their children so unable to develop some emotional intelligence being dominated by their child. Effectively the roles have been reversed judging by the number of parents that are being abused by their children. Equality gone mad as we found when teaching, outside of school you would a normal relationship with the children knowing that once you enter those gates all bets were off and it is a case of "Them and Us" no holds barred so interesting to see the normality of an inclusive model education system solely driven by Political Spin and corruption in terms of massaging the accounts. https://lnkd.in/eYRD3FZf
