July is #DisabilityPrideMonth– a chance to centre the political demands of diverse disability communities and explore how disability intersects with all struggles for liberation. One part of this is heeding the call of #DisabilityJustice and #LongCovid advocates to recognize the ongoing pandemic as a mass disabling event, and the need to adapt how we hold convenings. We will implement multi-layered protections onsite, including: ✨ Free testing ✨ Air filtration ✨ Mandatory usage of high-quality masks (unless medically exempt) Together we have the opportunity to set a new example: we can resist eugenic logics of disposability and show our love for movements through community care. New research from the University of Michigan sheds light on racial and ethnic disparities in aging in place. African American adults face higher disability rates, underscoring the need for more accessible spaces. Surprisingly, rural Indigenous populations are the most prepared for aging in place.
