African World Heritage Day serves as a reminder of our strong cultural legacy and each year, we are tasked with ensuring continuous preservation of theses cultures. This year’s theme; “Safeguarding Africa’s Heritage Through Education” strongly resonates with the theme for African Union – Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century. Kwara State, the home of KwaraLEARN, is home to many amazing heritage sites with more still being uncovered. Notable amongst them are Owu Falls (Ifelodun LG), Kainji Lake National Park Extension (Kaiama LG), Esie Museum (Irepodun LG), Awon Mass Wedding Festival (Moro LG), Afon Fisihing festival (Asa LG), Grand Durbar Festival, Ilorin; Patigi Boat Regatta (Patigi LG) etc. Kindly check Visit_kwara to explore more of Kwara’s cultural and natural heritage sites and festivals. KwaraLEARN, a Kwara State initiative (by His Excellency Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq), celebrates a key aspect of this year’s theme, “EDUCATION” – by delivering life-changing lessons to Kwara children in public primary schools through the use of innovative technology and data-driven platform, coupled with high-quality learning materials, effective training and ongoing coaching for teachers and school leaders, and technology-enabled support teams to create 360-degree support for learning outcomes. In recognition of #UNESCO’s support for the protection of world cultural and natural heritage as well as their preservation for future generation; African World Heritage Day continues to take up recognition as more governments have taken concrete measures to protect heritage sites within their borders. We urge everyone to be actively involved in the systemic & intentional conservation of our rich, cultural heritage. #AfricanWorldHeritageDay #AfricanWorldHeritageFund #UNESCO #May5 #Education

I'm honored to lead this critical initiative, driving ocean sustainability and marine conservation efforts in Ghana. The UN Ocean Decade is a global movement, and I'm excited to collaborate with experts, stakeholders, and communities to promote ocean health, support marine biodiversity, and foster innovative solutions for a resilient blue economy. Let's connect and explore opportunities to make a positive impact on our oceans and planet! #UNOceanDecade #ECOPGhana #OceanSustainability #MarineConservation"
We are very excited to share our next National Node: Ghana! ECOP Ghana are led by a group of emerging young leaders in the field of ocean science and management in Ghana. The group aims to foster the professional development and networking of early-career ocean scientists and managers from Ghana, West Africa. Coordinators include: Peter Teye Busumprah, Gabriella Akpah Yeboah, Iddrisu Seidu, Mabel Anim, Curtis Akapini and Lord Offei-Darko, and we are super inspired by the work they have already done to organise and mobilize ECOPs in their region, as well as showcasing how Ghanian ECOPs already actively contribute to the UN Ocean Decade through many events. On that note, were extremely proud to see Peter representing ECOP Ghana and ECOP Africa at the Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona recently. Head over to their page: www.ecopdecade.org/ghana to learn about the coordinators, their mission and objectives, and how you can get in touch.

DEI expert and practice researcher in intercultural and international relations management. Volunteer in the World Association for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
Teaching for impact and sustainable change? Have just been asked about materials relating to Sustainable Development Goals. I have recommended looking at the material developed by the two world associations for Guiding and Guiding, WAGGGS and WOSM, in cooperation with FAO. They are know as the YUNGA-UN badges and we have yet to implement this program material in Denmark (note 'yet' - I may pick up this challenge in future). We are talking a lot about crisis preparedness - and I believe we owe to students to develop their capacity to analyse and act when confronted with crisis situations on the ground. 'Crisis' can refer to flooding of the kind we have seen in Central Europe this month. But it can also involve humanitarian crises such as the situation for Syrian refugees in 2015, Ukrainian refugees in 2022 or Palestinian refugees in 2024. Or perhaps a pandemic - a type of crisis familiar to all since 2020. To train crisis preparedness, we developed a dilemma game for the international scout and guide camp Roverway 2024. This tested participants' ability to analyse a crisis situation and make a decision, often based on scarce information, if any at all (this did challenge some participants). This game came out of our conversations in the WAGGGS Europe Crisis Support Team, as well as my interviews with 10 Polish volunteers engaged in 'Ukraine Action'. In two weeks I shall test the game on a group of BA students from Language & International Studies. Because students who aim for a career in international organisations, diplomacy, security or global NGOs need practical experience with decision making in crisis situations. If the experiment works, we may want to develop the game further. Just today I got some inspiration on possible ways of working with scenarios for the future. The crisis game is not available online, but you can access the YUNGA material. This is very good - highlighting important themes relating to sustainability. And it is there for you to use in IB classrooms, Folk High Schools, civil society trainings etc. So let's start thinking and acting for the future :)
