📣 “The voices of women are frequently not heard” In 2019, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was urging action to reach gender equality in marine science. 🔬 The ocean challenges set up by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are very ambitious, and success cannot happen without including women. If history has proven how female scientists have brought precious knowledge to marine science, women remain under-represented today for decision-making roles in conservation. By reaching equality, we guarantee balanced solutions for a safe and clean ocean 💪 For that, we need to raise women's voices : by providing training, job opportunities and ensuring they have enough room to express themselves and share their knowledge with the world 💬 Let's inspire many other women to pursue a marine science career! Happy International Women's Day! Today, we recognise the powerful role women have played and continue to play in the fight against climate change. In every corner of the globe, women are leading the charge for a more sustainable future. Their voices, their ideas, and their relentless determination are driving meaningful change. Throughout history, women have been the stewards of the earth, nurturing and safeguarding our environment for generations to come. From Indigenous communities preserving traditional knowledge to groundbreaking researchers like Eunice Foote, whose work laid the foundation for our understanding of climate change, and from climate activists demanding action to pioneering scientists, women have always been at the forefront of environmental movements. As we celebrate International Women's Day, let's honour the legacy of trailblazers like Eunice Foote and acknowledge the importance of gender equality in climate action. #IWD #ClimateAction #WomenInClimate #ClimateRealityAustraliaPacific #LeadOnClimate #BeAmbitious #IWD24

✈️Cargo Margo✈️ asks, "What do you think about women in the supply chain industry?" We think, "A powerful transformation is underway, shaping a brighter future as women lead and innovate in every corner of the maritime industry." Let’s continue this journey – full speed ahead. In 2021, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted a resolution proclaiming an International Day for Women in Maritime to be observed on May 18 every year. The day is designed to raise the profile of women in maritime, strengthen the IMO's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and support work to address the current gender imbalance in maritime. At the VMA, we are celebrating all week! #VAmaritime #WomeninMaritime

This UNESCO article on gender equality and ocean sustainability emphasises the importance of integrating a gender perspective into ocean science and governance. It highlights the roles women play in coastal and maritime industries, often facing low-status, low-pay, and high-risk conditions. The article discusses strategies for promoting gender equality, including enhancing female representation in ocean science, where women currently make up a minority. It also stresses the need for global awareness and advocacy to empower women in marine sectors and improve sustainability outcomes for all. You can read the full article below. What do you think about the strategies? How else would you propose to encourage and promote gender equality? Comment below 👇🏼

The UN adopted the “Pact for the Future” last week, which is a historic step toward making global decision-making more inclusive, especially for younger and future generations 🌐 This agreement is another positive sign of how foresight and long-term thinking are gaining real momentum on the world stage. 💡 One of the most exciting parts of the Pact is its commitment to giving future generations a voice in today’s decisions. It emphasizes youth participation and urges leaders to consider the long-term impact of their actions on those who will inherit the world. While we can't know exactly what future generations will want, we can at least try to put ourselves in their shoes and work to leave the world in a better place. As with many big agreements, the Pact is full of big promises—like ending hunger, achieving gender equality, and promoting peace—but it doesn’t always spell out how to achieve these goals. Still, the broad support it received shows a growing desire to do things differently and create a more inclusive, fair, and sustainable future At ANTICIPATE, we work to democratize the futures, helping to shape better futures for everyone. We believe in being diplomats for these better futures, advocating for the world we want to pass on ✍️ #foresight #futures #futuregenerations #summitofthefuture

From Finance to NGO | Impact maker on Sustainability | Gender Equality & Inclusion | Mother & Entrepreneur
Thank you, Institute of Sustainability and Technology (IST) for orchestrating the extraordinary One Earth Summit yesterday. The turnout was simply astounding, with a diverse array of participants and panelists, leading to captivating encounters with new friends and heartwarming reunions with old ones. Moreover, it is imperative that we cultivate a heightened consciousness of social issues within our beloved planet. The pursuit of reduced inequality, quality education, enhanced health and well-being, and the indispensable cause of gender equality are among the critical objectives encapsulated by the #SDGs. It is essential to recognize that climate change is no longer confined to a solitary predicament; rather, it is a shared reality that unites us all under the vast expanse of our common sky. Supporting the delivery of environmental & sustainability projects at Mabbett | Experienced Project Manager & Passionate about Sustainability
Since today is International Womens Day 👩 , I had the pleasure to attend a very exciting event recognising the amazing work done by women and champions researching the gender aspects of Climate Change and Sustainable Development across the world. 📔 At today's launch event for the newest book developed by the International Institute for Better Futures, attendees could learn more about the breadth of research into women's roles in sustainable development which can be often overlooked. Womens' resilience, capacity to build more knowledge, and impact on hazard prevention such as floods are only some of the interesting cases of grassroots projects led by women doing amazing work to foster a sustainable future. Most importantly: Gender equality plays a very important role within the SDGs (Goal5), specifically targeting gender equality and empower all women and girls. The effort to create an equal future for us all, around the globe, should be tied into all our strategies to work to combat climate change and its associated risks. I'll hopefully be able to use my newly gained knowledge soon, exploring opportunities with our ESG team here Mabbett Ltd, where we aim to support organisations far and wide to become more sustainable and equal.
