Bombardier claims first for revealing environmental impacts BOMBARDIER is claiming to be the first business jet manufacturer to reveal the environmental impact of its portfolio, after providing public access to the footprint of all in-production aircraft. The manufacturer’s Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are a key part of its strategy to contribute to a more sustainable aerospace industry, delivered a year ahead of schedule, it said. “Challenger 650 aircraft joins Bombardier’s Challenger 3500, Global 5500, Global 6500 and Global 7500 aircraft as the only business jets in the world to carry an EPD,” according to Bombardier. The declarations enable the company and its partners to mitigate the environmental footprint of their products, it said. Used as a reference guide, the EPDs can help to target improvement areas over the short- or medium-terms. Environmental details on display include: aircraft CO2 emissions generated at each step of the value chain from raw material extraction until aircraft end-of-life. But the initiative is not designed to deliver direct commercial advantage. “The role of EPDs is not to stamp our aircraft as more sustainable than others, rather to take ownership of the environmental impact they generate,” said Jean-Christophe Gallagher, executive vice president, Aircraft Sales & Bombardier Defense, Bombardier. Environmental reports can be consulted like any other specification document, he added. “The same way we provide factual information about the unmatched width of the Challenger 650 aircraft’s cabin in its category or its leading dispatch reliability, Bombardier [now] publicly provides factual information on the environmental impact of its business jets.” Read more via the link. tinyurl.com/yznvrjs8 #sustainableaviation #aviation #businessjets #privatejets #aviationindustry

BOMBARDIER sets a new industry standard by becoming the first business jet manufacturer to publicly disclose the environmental footprint of its entire in-production aircraft portfolio. Through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Bombardier takes proactive steps towards a more sustainable aerospace industry, a year ahead of schedule. Among its fleet, the Challenger 650 aircraft now joins the Challenger 3500, Global 5500, Global 6500, and Global 7500 aircraft as the only business jets worldwide with EPDs. These declarations empower Bombardier and its partners to understand and mitigate the environmental impact of their products, reinforcing the company's commitment to sustainability. Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Executive Vice President of Aircraft Sales & Bombardier Defense, emphasizes that EPDs aim not to tout superiority but to transparently own up to environmental impact. These reports, akin to standard specification documents, offer factual insights into aircraft environmental footprints, including CO2 emissions across the entire value chain. Moreover, Bombardier sees EPDs as catalysts for continuous improvement, providing a roadmap to enhance environmental performance. This initiative underscores Bombardier's dedication to innovation and sustainability, initiated during the development of its Global 7500 aircraft, the first business jet to receive third-party verified EPDs in 2020. With EPDs for the Challenger 3500, Global 5500, and Global 6500 aircraft preceding, Bombardier's latest disclosure for the Challenger 650 jet further solidifies its commitment to environmental responsibility and transparency. Is sustainable aviation fuel set to take flight? The world’s first transatlantic flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) took off from London’s Heathrow airport and landed in New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport in November last year. Some airlines have launched services with the option of selecting a supplementary Sustainable Aviation Fuel Package presenting travellers with the option to choose 0-100% SAF – all for an extra cost. Would you buy this service? What is SAF? SAF is the collective term for jet fuel produced from sustainable feedstocks, which can be defined as Biofuel, Renewable Fuels of Non-biological Origin (RFNBO), such as e-fuel, or Recycled Carbon Fuels (RCF). SAF can be integrated into the current design of aircraft jet turbines, making it a “drop-in” fuel. Additionally, SAF is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% or more throughout its life cycle, as compared to conventional jet fuel. These properties make SAF a vital component in the energy transition of the aviation industry, with sustainable-based fuels contributing a significant proportion of the fuel mix in the short-to-medium term. #sustainable #aviation #fuel #SAF #GHG #CCS

It is a time of change in the maritime industry. According to a forecast published by DNV in 2023, shipping would need to use a massive 30–40 per cent of the estimated global supply of carbon-neutral fuels to meet expected demand and fulfil the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) current GHG strategy. Shipping will compete with many other sectors for these resources, so it will obviously take more than a change of fuel to reach the net-zero target by 2050. As a technology supplier, Kongsberg Maritime has a clear responsibility to provide solutions that will boost the long-term efficiency of operations in the ocean space and significantly reduce their carbon footprint. Environmental considerations have very quickly become part of everything we do. Our focus is on products and technology that support the green transition. We work with solutions from the ship's bridge down to the propellers, from stem to stern, and with the surrounding communications technology. We know that integration between products and systems is key to efficiency and reduced emissions, and we study electrification and systems for low-carbon fuels, optimized tools and efficiency technologies, from a holistic perspective. Exciting developments in the aviation industry! 🛫 The EU is setting ambitious targets for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), aiming for 2% incorporation by 2025, 6% by 2030, and an impressive 70% by 2050. Additionally, from 2030, 1.2% of fuels must be synthetic, reaching 35% by 2050. At Carbonade, we're at the forefront of this transition, leveraging our disruptive ultra-efficient electrochemical technology to capture CO2 and convert it into Hydrocarbons—the primary feedstock for SAF. 🌱✈️ The future of sustainable aviation is now, and we're committed to driving positive change. Let's act fast and soar to new heights together! 🌍 #SustainableAviation #CarbonNeutral #Innovation #carboncapture #greenenergy #saf https://lnkd.in/eaMhna32

March and April have been busy months for vehicle emission regulation in the U.S. Last month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued a set of final emission rules setting stringent emission standards for all vehicle classes. These emissions rules are the latest in the agency’s series of actions ratcheting down criteria pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions from engines and vehicles and furthering the transition to zero-emission technologies. #Energy #Manufacturing #EPA
