In Canada, up to 42 million birds lose their lives each year to collisions with glass. But where there’s a problem, there are people with their hearts in the right place, ready to make a difference. Montreal’s Saint-Laurent borough has just passed a bylaw requiring the implementation of solutions to prevent bird-glass collisions. This isn’t just a new rule—it’s the result of government officials who care deeply, conservationists who are putting it all on the line, and communities that believe every single bird matters. The bylaw mandates that new buildings and major renovations with more than 50 per cent glass or windows on exterior walls use bird-safe glass or apply treatments that reduce reflectivity and make clear glass more visible. It also requires building owners to install markers or other visible features on existing glass surfaces to make them more detectable to birds. Saint-Laurent’s leaders have shown what’s possible when passion meets action. At Feather Friendly, we’re moved by this powerful step forward and are here to stand with everyone who’s working tirelessly to make our cities safer for birds. #featherfriendly #birdsafe #birds #birdconservation #Montreal #bylaws #conservation #wildlifeconservation #sustainability #education #Canada
Montreal's Saint Laurent borough hopes that a new bylaw will help bird populations thrive and that preventable deaths in the aviary world will decline.
