Today is World Oceans Day, a United Nations observance that reminds us of the major role the oceans play in everyday life. As part of our purpose to help protect the planet, Culligan has teamed with WILDCOAST, a coastal conservation organization based in California, to fund three solid waste retention systems that collect plastic and other waste before it enters the Pacific Ocean. By the end of year one, Culligan expects to have prevented more than 40,000 pounds (about 18,150 kg) of plastic – the equivalent of three African elephants – from entering the ocean. Today marks the 27th anniversary of the international day of action of rivers! The International Day of Action for Rivers emphasizes global solidarity in protecting rivers, ensuring access to clean water, and promoting community participation in water-related decisions. As we celebrate its 27th anniversary under the theme “water for all,” we acknowledge the critical role of rivers in human civilization and the alarming threats faced by freshwater ecosystems. With freshwater species declining by 83% since 1970, we need to speak up and protect our rivers, which are important resources. At BlueXPRT, our In-No-Plastic project stands as a testament to our commitment to river conservation. Through this initiative, we’re dedicated to fighting plastic pollution and preserving purity of our waterways, contributing to the protection of rivers worldwide.
