COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS INFORMATION SESSION WITH DR. MBM As a privileged three-time Commonwealth Scholar, I decided to parnter with the Global Commonwealth Scholarship Alumni Body to promote the Commonwealth Masters and PhD Scholarships (which will close on the 15th October, 2024). As a result, I will be having a FREE Commonwealth Scholarships information session this Friday, 20th September 2024, from 6 to 7PM WAT on Zoom. The session will focus on: 1. Basic information about the five Commonwealth Scholarships. 2. Eligibility and selection criteria. 3. The application process (which a number of people have found confusing because you need a nominating agency). 4. Valuable personal experiences from one who has won three of the five Commonwealth Scholarships. 5. Q & A All materials to be used during the session are Commonwealth customized slides sent directly to me by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK. Therefore, these copyrighted slides will not be shared with participants. However, participants will have access to the recordings of the session if they are unable to attend in real-time to watch at their convenience. There is very little time left to apply for this year's round (for Oct 2025 entry) for Commonwealth PhD studentships. These PhD studentships provides a full stipend, tuition fees (up to £18,000 per annum (as is the case with some other universities, Loughborough will cover the difference as per our agreement with the Commonwealth Office), Airfare, Study travel grant (where appropriate), Provision towards fieldwork (where appropriate). Applicant eligibility is detailed on the Commonwealth website, however candidates must be from an eligible country; Bangladesh, Cameroon, The Gambia, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Togo, Tuvalu, Uganda, Zambia. Candidates will require a supporting statement, in PDF format, signed and either on institutional letterhead or an email clearly showing the sender’s details, from a proposed supervisor in the UK from at least one of the institutions named on the application form.  Deadline for submitting an application is 16:00 hours BST (15:00 GMT) on 15 October 2024. The scholarships are for study in the UK beginning in October 2025. Applications to the CSC must be made using the CSC’s online application system. https://lnkd.in/ekFBWKVg As well as applying to the CSC, applicants must apply to a nominator. There are three types of nominator invited to participate in the PhD scholarship programme:  National nominating agencies – this is the main route of application. Selected universities/university bodies – which can nominate their own academic staff. Selected non-governmental organisations and charitable bodies. Each nominator oversees its own selection process and may have additional eligibility criteria. Applicants must check with the nominator for their specific advice and rules for applying, and their own eligibility criteria.
