Farewell to China’s Strategic Support Force. Let’s meet its replacements April 28, 2024, Defense One https://lnkd.in/eHYcUYC5 On April 19, the PLA announced that three co-equal forces—the Aerospace Force, Cyberspace Force, and Information Support Force—would be established to replace the SFF, itself created as part of the broad 2015 reorganization that also birthed the PLA Rocket Force. And for all that is changing, there is much that is not. According to an op-ed released in PLA Daily after the establishment of the ISF, while the structure may be new, the PLA’s underlying theories of victory remain the same: “Victory is achieved through information. Modern war is a confrontation between system and system, a contest between system and system. Whoever holds information superiority will hold the initiative in war.” This new reform seeks to drive the PLA further towards that enduring goal.

Lockheed Martin recently delivered the 75,000th rocket to the U.S. Army as production continues to ramp supporting contracts worth up to $4.8 billion for Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rounds and associated equipment. This go-to precision fires capability supports the defense of freedom and bolsters deterrence around the globe. Procured by domestic and global military partners for more than 40 years, GMLRS continues to provide 21st Century Security® solutions against sophisticated threats. GMLRS is the primary round for HIMARS and M270, the combat-proven MLRS family of launchers. Six rockets are loaded into each pod with two pods equipped on M270 and one on HIMARS launchers. The rocket is renowned for its highly dependable accuracy and adaptability to many missions. GMLRS comes in two variants, each with its own tactical advantages. The unitary warhead addresses point targets and the Alternative Warhead (AW) is designed for imprecisely located (area) targets, leaving no unexploded ordnance on the field. It’s pin-point accuracy and reliability reduces the number of rockets needed to defeat land-based targets. As demand for advanced security solutions continues to rise, the U.S. military and allies are prioritizing expanding their arsenal of reliable systems to deter and defend against threats. This is evidenced by the latest procurement contract for the rocket, the largest to date, calling for the production of an unprecedented number of rockets to support domestic and international customers. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/guK3Scs3

A new center of excellence has opened at the #Tartu-based #Estonian Military Academy (Kaitseväe Akadeemia), and among other things will allow research and development in the field of cyber warfare, daily Postimees AS reports https://lnkd.in/d8dE8Sm9. #Postimees says that the new facilities enable state-of-the-art electronic warfare #R&D activities, and the testing, while the academy's chief, Brig. Gen. Vahur Karus, (pictured) added that: "In contemporary warfare, we cannot afford the luxury of not talking about electronic warfare, as it has become a daily presence," citing the Ukraine and Israel-Hamas wars as examples of this. "Every officer who graduates from the academy must therefore be aware of what is happening in today's technology and what tools will be used against them on the battlefield from the very first moment," Brig. Gen. Vahur Karus went on. Military personnel from other units within the Estonian Defense Forces (EDF) and employees of partner institutions will also be able to use the facility. The Center of Excellence for Electronic Warfare was launched in 2022 and focuses on three main areas: teaching, research and development, and testing of existing equipment and the equipment to be acquired and is also an official testing center for the recently unveiled NATO - Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) program. https://lnkd.in/dWPTqVkw
