Embracing Differences: A Personal Take on Gender Equality in Entrepreneurship Despite many programs supporting women in entrepreneurship and their rights in business, the statistics reveal a complex reality. As of 2020, only 4% of unicorn startups were led by female founders, with a slight increase to 3.1% in Europe by 2022. However, all-women teams received just 1.9% of venture capital funding, despite women founding about half of all U.S. startups. In contrast, women's leadership in the corporate world is rising. Women held 10.4% of Fortune 500 CEO positions as of 2023, representing 58.4% of the U.S. workforce but only 35% in senior leadership roles. The performance of companies with women executives is 30% more likely to surpass others. Personally, I have been fortunate to never experience gender inequality in my career. I believe that differences in gender roles, especially in the context of entrepreneurship, are natural and should not be viewed negatively. For many women, including myself, prioritizing family and children is paramount. This doesn't hinder our success but rather shapes it uniquely. This perspective does not downplay the incredible strides women have made as leaders. Despite the challenges of balancing family life with the demanding pace of startups and the ever-changing business landscape, women continue to excel and lead with distinct approaches. I believe in focusing not on absolute equality but on the synergy of our differences. We should celebrate and leverage these distinctions to build a more inclusive and dynamic business environment. #GenderEquality #WomenInBusiness #Entrepreneurship

Congratulations to Featurespace and IP Group - this is the perfect case study for the Mansion House reforms. £134m cash proceeds from £23m investment over 7 financing rounds and 12 years, delivering 5.8x return. A great team of scientific founders and experienced management with ambition and support from additional venture growth investors who joined as the company grew. Backing innovation and AI before it became fashionable. A quick tally suggests that over recent years, IP Group has realised around £350m of cash from Touchstone Innovations portfolio companies, including Garrison Technology, WaveOptics, Inivata and Enterprise Therapeutics. There should be much more to come from the likes of Artios, Crescendo Biologics, Pulmocide, Mission Therapeutics & Storm Therapeutics. IP Group deserve praise for supporting these businesses over the long term. Sure, it's been a learning curve, but the model is working. It takes patience. What we need now is the Mansion House reforms to build on this and turbo charge the UK ecosystem, encouraging even greater ambition and still longer holding periods.
