Last month, DCAC helped celebrate the 30th anniversary of Kids in Court. Since 1994, this program, funded by the National Council of Jewish Women, has supported families and helped them navigate the court process with confidence. At Kids in Court, children and caregivers are welcome to ask questions and address any general concerns they may have about the legal process. This interactive approach aims to alleviate anxiety and empower families with knowledge, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way. We are so grateful to be a part of this program that helps empower families in our community. Thank you to @NCJW Greater Dallas, @Dallas County District Attorney's Office, and @Bikers Against Child Abuse International for your commitment to supporting Dallas children and families through this incredible program. #dallascac #dcac #cactx #kidsincourt

On this day in history 12/15/23. In 1874 Henry Bergh, Eldgridge Gerry, and philanthropist John D. Wright founded the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, the world’s 1st anti-child abuse agency, in NYC (later known as The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC). It is sometimes called the Gerry Society after one of its co-founders, Elbridge Thomas Gerry. It is commonly seen as having played a key role in the development of children’s rights and child protective services in the English-speaking world. Today it offers support and advocacy for high-risk and abused children, parental skills classes, and professional training in the identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect. Following its inception, the Society quickly became an integral part of the New York legal system, acting as representatives of the State and City in child abuse court cases, and with a hotline from the Society to the police. According to one analysis, the Society effectively brought state law “into line with its [own] understanding of childhood”. The founding of the NYSPCC prompted the rapid formation of other societies around the United States. By 1880 there were 37 societies; 162 in 1901, and by 1910 there were 250 societies in operation. Now you know. Abstracted from On This Day & Wikipedia. #societyforthepreventionofcruletytochildren #founded #newyorkcity #year1874

We created Custody Peace to raise awareness around #coercivecontrol and how this impacts the conditions in our homes and throughout our world, including in our schools, workplaces, legal system, various institutions and our planet as a whole. On a micro (domestic violence) and macro level (global violence), the tactics of abusers / oppressors are the same. ―They are rooted in the perpetuation of separation from truth, health, support, family, land, culture, resources and from oneself. In both cases, systems are weaponized, #DARVO tactics are always present (to control the narrative) and in many cases, the deliberate harm of children is the clear intention. However, when we collectively prioritize children, human rights, protection from violence/abuse, truth and accountability, we will empower, support collective healing, and the healing of our communities and planet in every way imaginable. Our goal is to evolve the conditions within our systems so that cycles of abuse are replaced with natural cycles of health and regeneration in our homes, communities and planet ―with a special focus on mothers and children ― by raising awareness via curated news, research, original educational media and collective advocacy. www.custody-peace.org

UNSRSG VAC and UNODC launch a Strategy to End Violence against Children! I was delighted to participate in today's UNODC webinar "FREE CHILDREN FROM CRIME AND VIOLENCE" , where this new Strategy was officially unveiled. Recent estimates indicated that over 1 billion children have experienced violence in the past year. This pervasive issue transcends borders, cultures, and socioeconomic divides. Whether within families, schools, justice systems, or communities, violence against children often persists without legal consequences. Recent studies reveal the physiological impact of violence on a child's brain. From physical to emotional harm, exposure to violence can have lasting effects, shaping the child's adulthood. This exposure may lead to a higher acceptance of violence or even an increased risk of displaying aggressive behavior, affecting not only the individual child but also families, communities, and society at large. The Strategy focuses as well on Children in Contact with Justice Systems including both criminal justice systems and justice systems intended to protect and support children in which they may appear as victims or witnesses and/or alleged as, accused of or recognized as having infringed the penallaw. We welcome this new strategy, which aligns with the priorities of the Global Initiative on Justice With Children and corresponds to the theme of the fifth edition of its World Congress on Justice With Children: " Preventing violence against children in child justice : pathways to child-centred systems" wich will take place in Madrid in May 2025. #ProtectingChildren #EndViolence #ChildRights #GlobalAwareness #ChildrensSafety Alexandra Souza Martins UN SRSG on Violence against Children Terre des hommes foundation Amanda Glassman Global Initiative on Justice With Children Penal Reform International Guillaume Landry UNODC Hannah Tiefengraber Giulia Melotti

🌟 Caring for Black & Brown Youth in Juvenile Justice 🤝 It's time we address an uncomfortable truth: You can't help those you don't genuinely care about. We must extend our empathy and support to the Black and Brown youth in the Juvenile Justice system. 🔍 Disparities persist, and it's our collective responsibility to break the cycle of injustice. Our system should focus on rehabilitation, not perpetuating inequalities. Every young life is worth investing in. 🙏 Let's commit to understanding the unique challenges these youth face, advocating for reforms, and providing opportunities for them to thrive. Together, we can make a difference and truly care for those who need it most. 💙 #JuvenileJustice #EqualityForAll #CaringMatters

Did you catch this week’s In Focus segment on Spectrum News 1 Kentucky? Together, we are protecting more children than ever before. But there’s so much more work ahead until we end child abuse and neglect. Thank you, Spectrum News 1 Kentucky and Mario Anderson, for the conversation with Kosair for Kids President Barry Dunn and Kentucky Youth Advocates' Cortney Downs. We can only succeed if we are unafraid to face this problem. #ChildAbusePreventionMonth

Domestic violence is NEVER ok and should not be taken lightly. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and it’s important to highlight what domestic violence is and how to get help. The attached article, written by the Women’s Center of Waukesha, does an excellent job of defining domestic violence and provides resources for victims in need of support. The MacGillis Wiemer Family Law Team is also committed to helping clients who are victims of domestic violence find support, peace and ultimately justice. #familylaw #supportingwomen #childrenfirst

On Wednesday, December 6 from 2:00-3:30 pm ET, Child Trends and the Coalition for Juvenile Justice will host a discussion with distinguished panelists to discuss the arc of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act and its evolution from primarily focusing on harm reduction for youth in confinement to a more wholistic focus on positive youth development, equity, family and community engagement and empowerment, and elevating the voices of those with lived experience. https://buff.ly/3SGBUfE
