Here is my educational moment for today: We all have heard that healthcare differs from everything else. Today, I had a Community Care appointment scheduled by the VA due to ongoing issues with what is believed to be flare-ups from my plantar fasciitis. The doctor walks in and asks me the same questions as usual, then I describe the pain when I first put my feet on the floor in the morning and until everything warms up, burning on the top and bottom of my feet that intensifies throughout the day, hurts in the ankles, etc. Follow-up question, "has anyone ever spoken to you about Tarsal tunnel syndrome?" No, ma'am, it's similar to what people experience with a carpal tunnel just in the ankle but often treated as plantar fascitis. Here is the definition so I don't get it wrong: "Tarsal tunnel syndrome is a compression, or squeezing, on the posterior tibial nerve that produces symptoms anywhere along the path of the nerve running from the inside of the ankle into the foot. Tarsal tunnel syndrome is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome, which occurs in the wrist." She suggested injections in the ankles to see if that would help. I was surprised that after 10 years of treatment and physical therapy, etc., I had never heard about it. She also said she was correct, I would be thanking her in three weeks when we see each other again because the pain would be three times better. The injections in the ankles felt like an electric shock wave because it was on the nerve. I am usually the person who asks questions when in the presence of a doctor; ask my mom, pops, or dad :). #medicaltips #askquestions #findrightprovider #VA #plantarfasciitis #tarsaltunnel #treatment

Don't Overlook the Little Things: A Cautionary Tale on Health Checkups Meet my father-in-law, who at 87 years young, is the epitome of physical fitness and mental sharpness. Yet, despite his overall good health, he struggled with balance and discomfort in unfamiliar areas. After thorough testing, it wasn't neurological or orthopedic issues that plagued him—it was a hidden culprit: cataracts. A simple eye test revealed the key to his discomfort, showcasing the importance of eye health in overall well-being. Conversely, a school friend of his faced a devastating battle with mouth cancer. Despite being a non-smoker with a healthy lifestyle, neglecting regular dental checkups led to severe infection and, ultimately, cancer. This serves as a poignant reminder: don't underestimate the significance of seemingly minor health checkups. Eye tests, dental exams, and hearing evaluations are just as crucial as screenings for heart health or other major concerns. Make it a habit to prioritize comprehensive health checkups for yourself and your loved ones—your future selves will thank you. #HealthCheckups #PreventiveCare #WellnessAwareness #CancerPrevention #vayahVikas

Why do I Get Symptoms Like Dizziness and Nausea from Riding in a Car? A common issue we hear from patients is feeling dizzy when riding in a car. In this case, we found that it was due to two main factors: 1) down-beating nystagmus, which is an abnormal eye movement where the eyes drift upwards and then quickly correct back down, and 2) vergence issues, where the eyes have difficulty coordinating to focus on near and far objects. These neurological issues can make it challenging for the brain to process all the visual information encountered while driving, leading to symptoms like dizziness and nausea. Treatment involves using whole-body vestibular stimulation through rotation therapy to strengthen the connection between the inner ear and the cerebellum. This, combined with targeted eye movement exercises, has been effective in reducing the frequency of the abnormal eye movements and improving the patient's ability to visually process their environment while driving Office: (734)-707-5105 Email: Info@drkeiser.com #ehlersdanlossyndrome #ehlersdanlos #eds #ehlersdanlosawareness #ehlersdanlossyndromes #ehlersdanlossyndromeawareness #pots #potstreatment #potsawareness #postcovid #posturalorthostatictachycardiasyndrome #potsie #dysautonomia #dysautonomiaawareness #dysautonomiawarrior #dysautonomiatreatment #vestibular #autonomicdysfunction #autonomicnervoussystem #ans #concussion #concussionawareness #concussiontreatment #concussions #postconcussionsyndrome #postconcussion #headinjury #braininjury #braininjuryawareness #braininjuryrehab
