Interesting. When a PO issues a lawful order- that you are being placed under arrest and need to comply- what happens next is dictated by that person. Acting as though you can do whatever you want inevitably leads to chaos and someone getting hurt. This officer threw a quick punch, disorienting the subject then a quick take down to enable handcuffing a much larger, resisting arrest subject. Had the officer NOT taken quick decisive action, this situation might have ended with multiple people injured instead of one sore face. If a cop says you're under arrest, put your hands behind your back and comply. It's that simple folks. Cops don't want to have to do this but in many cases it's the best way to avoid a much bigger mess.

"I wouldn't have done that." - Said Everyone That's what some people are thinking. The officer's actions were based on his perception that lead up to him responding to this call, engaging the subject, and neutralizing the threat. I don't have the background on this call but all I can say is, someone knows how to wrastle things bigger than him. Range management and distraction strikes work. It happened fast and you can see it's effectiveness. The rest was clinch and control with overwhelming speed and assertiveness. What do you all think? #police #lawenforcement #defensivetactics

Dan Murphy MA, CFE, CFCI this is smart law enforcement. Given the way the subject enter the premises, and was escalating quickly upon the officers arrival, the officer took the correct action. An officers duty is to neutralize threats as quickly and safely as possible to minimize risk to the community, themselves and the subject if possible. In Ranger Regiment we call this tactic “Violence of Action,” this allows for quick and overwhelming action to be conducted. By utilizing this tactic, you catch your subject(s) off guard, and ultimately prevent further injury to all involved. This is quality policing and a well trained officer. Society as a whole would agree, we would much rather see this than a dead subject, dead officers or both. Of course, naysayers and people that have never been in a situation such as this would say you could talk an already violent and irate subject down, but they clearly have not dealt with such individuals in those situations.

100%, Dan Murphy MA, CFE, CFCI. Comply. The time for the citizen to fight back is in the courtroom, not in the street.
