I enjoyed hosting a captivating session at the Farnborough International Airshow. Our discussion delved into the aviation industry’s commitment to achieving net-zero flying by 2050 and explored the steps required to turn these ambitions into reality.   A few of the main takeaways that stood out to me included:   🐌 Navigating Obstacles: Even though there is a lot of will and demand, we are still moving too slow. Considerable technical and economic barriers remain key hurdles for the transformation and adaption. The path to resolution is being carved through financial investments and innovative technological progress.   🤝 Unified Approach Required: A successful shift to sustainable fuels calls for a collaborative strategy among all key players—airlines, OEMs, investors, energy companies and regulatory bodies – to effectively mitigate climate effects.   ✈ Cultivating Engagement and Fostering Transparency: Customers are increasingly willing to invest in sustainable options, even at a premium. The cornerstone of successful adoption lies in thorough education and unwavering transparency throughout the journey of transformation.   A heartfelt thank you goes to our insightful panelists Julie Kitcher, Brian Moran, Lauren Riley and Jan Toschka for their expert perspectives.   Explore our joint publication on “How the aviation industry could help scale sustainable fuel production.”   #FIA2024 #Sustainability #McKinseyAtFIA
