Christos Stylianides, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Hellenic Republic, in his recorded message, shared Greece's commitment to supporting the global maritime ecosystem, representing the world's largest fleet. He emphasized the factor of a competitive maritime environment and the critical milestone of decarbonization to ensure international maritime makes a fair contribution to the global economy. Acknowledging the long and challenging road ahead, he highlighted the need for the availability of safe and low-carbon fuels. Mr. Stylianides called for close intersectoral and cross-sectoral collaboration, intensified research into alternative fuels, and the use of all available resources and knowledge. He advocated for a holistic approach rather than fragmented policies, stressing the importance of timely production of sustainable technologies in light of strong competition. He emphasized Greece's participation as a vendor in clean maritime initiatives, focusing on the enhancement of energy efficiency in ships and building green vessels. Mr. Stylianides urged innovative thinking to develop new solutions using both traditional and novel resources, involving public and private sectors. He highlighted the need for a safe investment environment that generates positive environmental results while maintaining Greece's leadership in international shipping. As a member of the Baltic Ports Organization, the Port of Tallinn is eager to engage in important discussions regarding the growing strategic importance of the Baltic Sea region.   Such discussions took place this week in Klaipeda, Lithuania, focusing on the geopolitical and economic outlook of the Baltic Sea region. The Ukrainian situation was a key topic, particularly the export of goods from Ukraine and the state of the Baltic port market two and a half years after the situation changed.
