I filled a lot of pages with my scruffy shorthand during two days at #Accountex last week. You might expect talks aimed at accountants and FDs to be a bit … well, dry. I’m glad to say that wasn’t the case. We intended iplicit’s blog articles about Accountex to provide a genuinely useful guide to some of the themes that emerged, whether you’re an accountant yourself or a finance professional in business Among the points covered in our two articles: 🎤 Former chancellor Lord Philip Hammond on the prospects for the economy. 🎤 Why CFOs have a vital role to play in facing the climate emergency, with Emmeline Skelton, Victoria Gillespie FCCA MCSI and Jose Antonio De Mayne Hopkins ACA. 🎤 The challenges of balancing an accountancy career with family life, according to Samantha Mitcham FMAAT, Emma Crawford-Falekaono and Mark Jenkins. 🎤 Why equality and inclusion are linked to business success, with Mo Kanjilal, Kayleigh Graham, Zarah Rehman and Sobi Hariharan C.ICB. 🎤 Why disabled people represent a vast number of potential employees and customers, according to Adam Tweed, John Chambers, Aysla Brown and Julia Penny. 🎤 The value of accountants advising on digital transformation, with Emily Deakin, John Toon and Frances Kay. 🎤 How to blend different generations in the workforce: some insights from Becky Glover. 🎤 Why leaders are not just the people with impressive job titles, with Grace Hardy MAAT, Alexis Charkiw, Yash S. and Jonathan Gorvin. 🎤 Some practical lessons in improving diversity from Kayleigh Graham. 🎤How the accountant of the future will embrace digital, according to MARK LEE FCA. 🎤 And why the value of a business is about much more than money, with Dr Tauni Lanier, Tannyth Bush, Sarah Whale and Becky Glover. Even if you spend most of your Accountex time listening to the speakers, you're only going to be able to hear a small sample. What messages did you take away? Our report on day one here: https://lnkd.in/eQ-WKXnV And day two here: https://lnkd.in/eqG79_P2
Still one of the most useful skills I ever learned.
Thanks for listening to our session Darren Slade - I love your shorthand - it's great to see different 'languages' being used at #accountex - I heard a lot of Accountanese, and we enjoy speaking Gapanese at The Gap HQ 😀
Are those notes or hieroglyphs?
If anyone thinks the finance profession isn't interested in making the world a better place they need to look at the substance of many of the talks listed here. The world is changing x #peopleplanetprofit
I always love reading your reports from events. It is great to see what everyone is talking about and how interesting the talks are. Might try and sneak off the stand next year to listen to a few 😀
Thank you for coming to the session! I love learning and listening to everyone’s talks - I leave feeling very inspired
Thanks for joining the session Darren - great to see you at the front looking engaged - nothing worse than catching the eye of a yawning audience member 😂 Amazing shorthand - wish I learnt to do this when I was studying - would have saved me a lot of time!
I’m in awe of your shorthand skills Darren ⭐️.
Thank you for joining our session Darren Slade, and I love your write ups on both days 🤗

5moDarren Slade thank you for including me in your amazing message and report. At Simplify Climate we see ESG principles are not just about sustainability but also about employees too. After all, an organisation cannot achieve net zero status if its employees do not behave in a net zero manner. This is why its important for corporations to understand and accept the investment required on training their employees to help minimise knowledge gaps on the complex matters we are dealing. Its not just allocating an ESG task to an employee but also teaching them the "ESG" matter they need to tackle.
