Whilst the government's clarity and more realistic revised timetable are appreciated, the delays underscore a critical issue: the capital challenges facing the NHS. As Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive of the NHS Confederation, pointed out, the delays could lead to rising costs, making these projects even more expensive, never mind creating further risk to patient safety. With the upcoming Spending Review, I hope the government considers the bigger picture on capital allocation. By ensuring more efficient and effective spending, we can better support the NHS's three shifts and ultimately improve patient care. Darwin Group

NHS 2025/26 Priorities – Delivering Better Care, Together NHS England has just released its 2025/26 priorities and operational planning guidance, setting a clear focus on improving access to care, cutting waiting times, and enhancing patient outcomes. Key priorities include: ✔️ Faster elective care – aiming for 65% of patients to receive treatment within 18 weeks. ✔️ Improved emergency care – shorter A&E waits and faster ambulance response times. ✔️ Better access to GPs and dentists – including 700,000 extra urgent dental appointments. ✔️ Enhanced mental health services – supporting 345,000 more children and young people.
