🚗 How far can software-defined and digital features push the boundaries of innovation in the smartest, cleanest and most sustainable cars of the future? 🚛 What do fleet operators and people with accessibility needs actually think of connected and automated mobility? ✔ Should people trust the AI underpinning automated vehicles and could machine-based decisions be adequately explained? 🔜 What are the remaining barriers to a safe and responsible commercial rollout of automated vehicles, and how can they be overcome? ⚠ Hype or hope: to what extent could GenAI help address future mobility challenges? 📶 How can vital parts of the ecosystem – connectivity, infrastructure, insurance, data, security and funding – support and enable connected and automated mobility? These are just some of the hard questions that will be addressed at the fourth edition of the #SMMTConnected in London in two weeks’ time. Back for the first time since 2019, this popular industry event will feature a carefully curated lineup of industry speakers from vehicle manufacturers and technology developers, as well as thought leaders from diverse sectors such as insurance, telecoms, digital tech, legal, logistics, fleets, venture funding, societal stakeholders and government. Oh, I can answer one of those questions before the conference, we absolutely should NOT trust AI in automated vehicles. AI cannot meet the requirements of safety critical software, and piloting 2-ish tonnes of metal on public (and private) roads is safety critical. How the industry has been allowed to do this beggars belief. And I look forward to the "trust" and "transparency" from the industry as they now start to explain the limitations of what they are doing.... Oh, and as for ADAS, my word, stop rolling out more and make the existing lot work on the road safely without causing MORE distractions for the driver. The rush and blind belief that technology can make our roads safer has meant we have more dangerous cars on the roads thanks to distraction and worry on the driver's behalf. Happy to discuss further, with anyone who wants to understand the dangers.
