Across PWF’s nine jurisdictions, there have been both significant steps forward and troubling steps back in the fight to catalyze a transformative approach to justice that is community-led, restorative, and racially just. The ebb and flow may slow us down. It may cause us to regroup. But it doesn’t stop our march onward. #Philanthropy #CommunityInvestment #Community #RestorativeJustice #TransformativeJustice

Acknowledging that philanthropy and its grantees can unintentionally perpetuate systemic racism and implicit bias, AFN supports our members and partners in actively addressing racial bias in the philanthropic sector through several initiatives. One initiative is a "Shared Language Glossary". This is a glossary of terms to promote shared language within our network. Too often, work around racial equity is confusing and misunderstood because the terms we use mean different things to different audiences. Explore the Glossary today: https://loom.ly/E-ZiPXY

Our CEO Megan Thomas was in Washington, DC this week for the 21st annual Foundations on the Hill, hosted by United Philanthropy Forum in partnership with Independent Sector and the Council on Foundations. As the largest annual public policy and advocacy convening designed specifically for philanthropy, we are demonstrating that when our sector advocates and speaks to Congress in a unified voice, we CAN make a lasting impact. During this week's meetings on Capitol Hill with Members of Congress, committee staff, and government officials at federal agencies, we advocated for vibrant, healthy, and equitable communities in San Diego/Imperial counties, California, and across the country. OUT NOW: On our latest episode (the last before we take a break over the summer) we have a fascinating conversation about how to understand and measure generosity around the world, with Pamala Wiepking, Stead Family Chair in International Philanthropy at Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. https://lnkd.in/eGRHGzat Including: -Is “philanthropy” a helpful word in a global context? -Is there any danger that if we broaden our definitions of generosity too far in our efforts to make them more universal, they lose meaning? -Is the role of philanthropy academics simply to observe and analyse giving and generosity, or to encourage it? -Are we in the midst of a "generosity crisis", or is the apparent decline in giving in places like the US, the UK and the Netherlands merely a reflection of the fact that the way we measure generosity has failed to evolve in step with how people actually choose to give?
