When designing a clinical trial, understanding the standard of care is paramount. It’s not just about what treatments are available but how patients access them, their support, and their entire journey. Here are some quick thoughts on why this matters: 1️⃣ Patient Experience: Patients are not just data points but real people with unique stories. 2️⃣ Holistic Care: A clinical trial should provide care that matches or exceeds what patients receive in standard treatment. Otherwise, why would they sign up? 3️⃣ Decision Dilemmas: Choosing between standard treatment and a trial can feel like picking between going to your local restaurant you’ve been to 100 times or trying that new Thai place down the street - there is a possibility that the Thai place is better, but are you going to go against what you’re used to.
