TB remains one of the top infectious killers worldwide, more than 10 million people fell ill with TB globally and approximately 1.5 million die each year. It ranks alongside HIV as a leading cause of death globally. And things got even trickier with the COVID-19 pandemic. Our immune systems took a hit, making our lungs more vulnerable to TB. Plus, healthcare disruptions made it tough to detect and treat TB, which could mean more people getting sick and even dying from it. But hey, did you know March 24 was World TB Day? It takes a whole community’s support for an individual to defeat TB, and Khushipur’s story stands as a testament to this. Chandraprakash’s diagnosis was met with the power of collective support and encouragement, ensuring he gets the proper treatment. From offering him comfort to ensuring his nutritional requirements were fulfilled - the efforts from his community to fight #TogetherAgainstTB helped him defeat the disease. The road to recovery for a TB patient can be challenging. Symptoms and treatment, along with stigma around the disease, can make the journey very difficult. But care and compassion from people around can make an impactful difference.
