Great places come from: - Creativity - Collaboration - Looking to others - Learning from others. Placemaking is not a one-person job. It’s not something you can do alone. It takes partnership. That’s why we will always champion the importance of partnership and collaboration for the benefit of the West End and beyond. Do we have our own vision for London and the nation? Of course. But it’s one that involves bringing our peers and partners along with us. And, it’s informed and inspired by looking at how other incredible cities around the world are changing for the better, before thinking about how we can achieve similar things. Two partnerships I’ve been particularly proud of last year: - Our work with Westminster City Council developing a long-term vision for Regent Street, and with Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and The Royal Parks to restore the spine between St James’s and The Regent’s Park (a personal passion of mine) - Our collaborative report with National Trust, Peabody, Historic England, and Grosvenor designed to help address the UK skills gap in the area of heritage retrofit, boost the economy and support its net zero future. Here’s to many more placemaking partnerships. #placemaking #partnerships #westend

Great to be part of this discussion about alternative housing models, hosted by Rothelowman. As different models of housing, including mixed tenure, co-living and BTR are being delivered we need to keep sharing the learnings. We should be listening to developers, architects, building managers, asset managers and residents for what is important to get right. There are some valuable principles for the design of housing from the shared economy when trading off size of living spaces for more communal facilities and public amenity, in the right locations, to suit different stages of people’s lives.
Last week, we welcomed some of the property industry’s most insightful and visionary leaders to our Sydney studio to unpack the state of Australia’s housing crisis. Hearing from those who are deeply entrenched in the delivery of housing across Australia discuss the societal, cultural and political changes that must occur to alleviate and future-proof our cities was enlightening and a true pleasure. Thank you to our incredible panel speakers – LDK's Amanda Kidd, Novus' Jason Goldsworthy, Campus Estates' Jon Whittle, Urbis' Murray Donaldson, Planning Co's Tom Goode and RLB's Vicky Seretis – for generously sharing your solutions-focused ideas and to our partners for joining us for the evening. We look forward to continuing the conversation on housing to help move the dial for our cities. Besides New York City’s (City of New York) popular High Line, #DidYouKnow that the city has almost 600 privately owned public spaces (POPS)? Following the 9/11 event in 2001 and its recognition as the Lee Kuan Yew #WorldCityPrize Laureate in 2012, New York City has invested even more heavily in the public realm in creating a world-class central business district and city. We catch up with Edith Hsu-Chen, the Director of New York City‘s Department of City Planning, on how the city has created such an impressive number of public spaces since the 1960s: 📝Continuously calibrate regulations to not just cater for the lowest common denominator, but for outliers to create more interesting and unique public spaces 🛠️Build up a good understanding and culture of the value of good public spaces for businesses, the city and people ✅Provide the right amount of incentives to the private sector to make the provision of public spaces viable Read our full interview with Edith for more insights behind its POPS stars, and discover a lesser-known strategy for making the High Line viable for future developments around it. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gWgRnQ2j #LKYWCP #UrbanPlanning #UrbanTransformation #PublicSpace

Senior Asset Manager at Franco Management Group, Inc. with expertise in luxury property and operations management.
I've read through this and these are the key points: City of Yes for Housing Opportunity 'A little more housing in every neighborhood' *Universal Affordability Preference (allows buildings to add 20% more housing if the units are affordable)* *Office to Residential Conversions initiative aims to revitalize office districts by transforming outdated commercial buildings into residential spaces, addressing both business needs and the housing crisis.* *Town Center Zoning will boost affordable housing by allowing new residences above businesses on commercial streets, enhancing accessibility to local shops, and fostering vibrant, mixed-use communities.* *Accessory Dwelling Units like backyard cottages, garage conversions, and basement apartments can create income for homeowners while maintaining the neighborhood's character. ADUs can also offer extra space for extended families.* *Transit-Oriented Development advocates for adding housing near public transit to enhance convenience, reduce car dependence, lower traffic congestion, and support environmental goals. It aims to legalize modest 3-5 story apartment buildings, particularly in areas well-served by public transit, such as on larger lots, wide streets, or corner locations. This approach addresses the current prohibitive regulations and aims to shorten commutes, thereby alleviating traffic and environmental issues.* *The City of Yes initiative proposes to streamline regulations, making it easier for campuses with unused space to construct new buildings. This development would not only provide housing solutions but also generate funds for campus repairs and new facilities, revitalizing community institutions and contributing to addressing the housing crisis.*
Dan Garodnick shares his excitement for City of Yes for Economic Opportunity and City of Yes for Housing Opportunity. These initiatives will modernize our zoning regulations to support businesses, job growth, and affordable housing. These proposals will deliver on the wider New New York Action Plan goals to reimagine our commercial districts as 24/7 destinations and generate inclusive future focused growth.

As I skimmed Billy Shore's "Letter from the Cathedral of Milan," two things stood out. The value of building personal relationships and community. Billy draws a parallel between Milan Cathedral's centuries-long construction and the strong development of communities. He notes that building solid relationships requires patience, dedication, and a common goal. My key takeaway from Shore's letter: 1. Relationships, like large structures, are long-term projects you must build gradually. 2. Like the cathedral builders, build something that will outlive you. 3. A strong foundation is vital in any endeavor you undertake. 4. When people come together, great things happen. Does your career convey stories and values that inspire you to be part of something bigger than yourself? Share in the comments.
