In thinking about workplace culture, people sometimes ask me about the difference between affinity groups and employee resource groups (ERGs). In general, affinity groups tend to be more oriented toward supporting members, while ERGs tend to have more formal organizational objectives. The reality is that definitions and practices vary widely -- and there can be a lot of overlap in how these types of groups begin and evolve over time. To me, the most important thing is that any employee group feel authentic, supportive, and positive (effective) in enhancing inclusion and belonging. All employees deserve to be safe, included, seen, and valued without being exposed to micro- and macroaggressions. Let's work toward healthy workplaces. #Inclusion #HealthyWorkplaces
