Many years ago, Ch. QS Ananda Wickramasinghe questioned us in one of his RICS sessions: "How do you compare the construction industry development in various cities just by visiting them?" The answer was simple: count the number of cranes. It might seem funny, but it's not. The number of cranes gives a good indication of the construction activities in a city. RLB Australia maintains a Crane Index, which provides this indication. According to the RLB Crane Index(2024 Q1), there are 879 cranes in Australia. NSW accounts for 49.5% of the cranes, Melbourne accounts for 22.3%, and QLD accounts for 17.8%. #construction #rlb #aact #qsonline #siteminds
