HS2 Northolt Tunnel East - Engagement Tour Last week, Tunnelcraft Director, Jim Riordan joined our site engagement tour at the Victoria Road Crossover Box on the Northolt Tunnel East Tunnel project. During the tour, Jim visited several key areas, including the pit bottom, cross passages, and the invert concrete bridge operations. He caught up with our employees, gaining insights into their daily challenges and the progress they are making. HS2 Bromford Tunnel - Max Webb, Employee Spotlight Max Webb, who dedicated 15 years to serving as a civil servant in a demanding, low-paid role with limited family time, sought a new career to better support his family's needs. After discussions with Tunnelcraft’s Labour Manager, Mark Price, in February 2023, Max decided to join the Long Itchington Wood Tunnel project. Starting in an entry role position as filter press operative on the slurry treatment plant, Max quickly demonstrated his work ethic and attitude which has resulted in three promotions across Long Itchington Wood and Bromford Tunnel projects. His first was to Service Extension Operator at the back of the tunnel boring machine (TBM), followed by a second promotion to TBM Grout Operator. Most recently, Max has excelled in his new role as Senior Grout System Operator. Both Balfour Beatty VINCI and Tunnelcraft congratulate Max for his remarkable progress and view him as a great example of the career opportunities being created by HS2. Congratulations to Lawrence Tynan on completing his NVQ Level 2 Tunnelling Operative Apprenticeship! After 15 months of dedication working at the Atlas Road site—both on the surface and rear of the TBM—Lawrence has earned a well deserved permanent position as a Service Extension Operative on the Down Line TBM at Victoria Road Crossover Box. It’s been great to see Lawrence’s knowledge and confidence grow, and to see someone who is clearly very happy working in a tunnel. HS2 - Bromford Intermediate Shaft A huge thank you to David Smith from Mindset Soldier for giving a mental health and suicide prevention presentation to our employees at Bromford Intermediate shaft today. David will be capturing all shifts across the BBV projects in the coming days. Stephen Quinn (Shafts & Caverns works manager for BBV) quoted "absolutely brilliant, thank you. I have never seen the workforce so engrossed, listening to a guest speaker here before."

HS2 Northolt Tunnel East In early 2023, Mark Robertson joined Tunnelcraft as a Tunnelling Apprentice, embarking on his journey at the Atlas Road Logistics Tunnel and Victoria Road Crossover Box. During his apprenticeship, Mark gained valuable experience in key areas, including TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) assembly and disassembly, conveyor assembly and maintenance, pit top and bottom lifting operations and various roles on the TBM itself. In July 2024, Mark was one of six Tunnelcraft apprentices at Skanska Costain Strabag who completed and became qualified NVQ Level 2 Tunnelling Operatives. Throughout his time on the team, Mark has consistently demonstrated a self-starting attitude, impressing both his peers and supervisors. His dedication to learning and strong work ethic have now earned him a promotion to the mechanical team, where he serves as a Junior Fitter. Mark is currently advancing his skills by undertaking an NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance & Repair. Steve Heggie, TBM Mechanical Foreman, commented, "Mark's initiative and commitment to his role have been evident from day one. His promotion is well-deserved, and I have no doubt he will continue to excel in his new role." Jim Riordan, Tunnelcraft Director, added, "Mark is a great example of the career opportunities on offer in UK tunnelling. As a company, we feel strongly about bringing the next generation through to keep the industry moving. In a year's time, Mark will have secured himself a well paid career, and we are very proud of him." HS2 Bromford Tunnel - Engagement Tour This week, Brian Rattigan, Deputy Works Manager for Tunnels, Gerry Keigher, Tunnelcraft's Health and Safety Manager and John Doheny, Tunnelcraft Contracts Manager conducted a site engagement tour at Bromford Tunnels. Gerry Keigher highlighted the site's organisation, noting the pit bottom area was "well organised" and that "all the operatives were in good spirits, operating safely and professionally, which is brilliant to see."
