Our 2023 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Impact Report is hot off the press and filled with actionable insights. 📈 In an era where DEI are at the forefront of our minds, we've been promoting these values throughout our organization since 2016. It's an ambitious journey, but we're committed to making it a reality by fostering change at every level, from encouraging ground-up, employee-led initiatives to putting DEI at the top of our agenda. 🌟 Every little action matters, and here's a surprising fact: small actions like advocating for fair hiring practices and promoting diversity in our teams can have a huge impact on the bigger picture. 🤝🌈 This shows through our DEI efforts, which have shifted the needle substantially for key metrics since 2017: ✅ Women in the workforce at Everise grew from 48% to 65%. ✅ Women in leadership have grown from 30% to 46%. ✅ Achieved a whopping 85% favorability score in our inaugural Diversity & Inclusion Internal Employee Survey conducted in 2022. ✅ Our DEI-forward culture has been recognized by more than 15 awards, rankings and accolades. Yesterday, I had the distinct pleasure of moderating a panel discussion at the Powerful Women conference, centered around the theme "How are other sectors supporting diverse workforces to thrive?" The insights shared by the esteemed panelists from Noon, Women in Banking & Finance, GSK, Microsoft, and Matalan were nothing short of transformative. A special thanks to Eleanor Mills Anna Lane Carol Rosati OBE Kate Rosenshine and Catherine Muirden for their profound contributions. Their expertise and experiences shed light on the crucial 'Bring, Build, and Retain' strategies necessary for nurturing diverse talent in the workplace. A few takeaways: 1. 🚀 Attracting Diversity: The innovative methods to draw in younger women and women of color are reshaping the landscape. 2. 💡 Empowering through Inclusion:The role of inclusive leadership in fostering a culture where every voice is not only heard but also valued. 3. 🌱 Retaining Talent: How mentorship and tracking diversity progress are key pillars in maintaining a thriving, diverse workforce. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) leaders are pivotal for fostering meaningful change within organisations. But, to truly ensure DEI initiatives gain traction to drive desired change throughout the business, diversity leaders need to be engaged. While we have come a long way with representation in the tech industry, there is always room for improvement. A few months ago, we hosted our Women in Software (WIS) awards - an incredible celebration of the amazing women who are making big strides in the tech industry. At this event, we had the privilege to get the chance to interview some of our community partners who shed light on some of the challenges faced by DEI leaders in driving impactful initiatives and what can actually make a difference. DEI Initiatives Decreased In 2023: What Challenges Persist For 2024? In 2023, the landscape for corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion faced notable shifts and hurdles after a surge in investment triggered by the racial justice movements in 2020. However, the momentum around DEI initiatives globally slowed considerably, according to the Paradigm’s recent report: 🔻a 4-point decrease in budgets dedicated towards DEI 🔻a 9-point decline in the percentage of organizations that have a DEI strategy 🔻a noticeable reduction in the number of companies with allocated DEI budgets Despite these downward trends, some positive movements were still evident in impactful DEI initiatives: ✅a 6-point increase in the presence of senior DEI leaders within companies. ✅a 3-point increase in organizations tracking race/ethnicity representation within executive lines of business. ✅an 8-point increase in organizations setting gender representation goals. ✅a 4-point increase in organizations establishing race/ethnicity representation goals. ❗Nevertheless, despite these efforts, the combination of existing trends and the influence of the current economic and political climate suggests substantial risks to DEI progress in 2024 and beyond. To combat that risk, organizations need to adapt their strategies, emphasizing the importance of navigating this evolving DEI landscape.   As we celebrate International Women's Day tomorrow, I cannot help but reflect on my time growing up in Kansas City, Kansas. My sister and I were raised by my mom who is my undisputed hero. She juggled multiple jobs yet still found time to attend all my games and make sure I did my homework. We faced challenges yet she created a magical childhood filled with unconditional love. Her strength and determination were my initial lessons in the extraordinary impact women can have, not just within a family but in industries and communities.   Now as the CEO of Delta Dental and Surency I have seen firsthand the power female leadership can have in an organization. At our company:   - 74% of all managers are female - 67% of our C-Suite executives are female - 60% of our Board of Directors is female     These numbers are well above average. A Grant Thornton study found 32% of senior management roles were held by women globally. Our commitment to strong female representation isn’t just a matter of principle. The research is clear. Companies with more women in leadership are more profitable, more innovative and outperform their peers.   Indeed, our female leaders and employees are a cornerstone of our success, which has been recognized by customers, employers and industry peers.
